Political correctness is a major force in the modern world, and it's very divisive. Many people see it as a slow poison to free speech and a great leap towards an Orwellian future, while others see it as the gold standard and the apparent key to end all oppression.

To me it seems like a good idea gone horribly wrong. While there are certain things you usually shouldn't say in polite company, only speech which directly encourages violence and destruction should be censored.

The problem is that political correctness is now used to censor anything deemed as "hate speech" or even more broadly "offensive". Some might not understand my issue here, afterall, hate speech is bad and so is being offensive, right? Well, you see, everyone has their own opinion on what counts as "hateful" or "offensive". To violate free speech in an attempt to appease the feelings of every minority group would eventually require us to ban just about everything.

Some of the best examples of the damage caused by PC can be found in College "safe spaces". This was originally an idea that colleges should be places where minorities can go without fear of being persecuted. While that might sound nice, these safe spaces have turned out horribly in practice. Many universities have become echo chambers where any political thought that differs from the liberal mainstream is banned. Instead of being places of intellectual discourse where various points of view are debated on equal grounds we get pools of indoctrination where everyone recites the same rhetoric and does not stray for fear of being "offensive".

It's not just colleges though, PC pervades into the outside world as well. Good luck having honest discussions regarding Immigration, Race, or Terrorism without someone trying to shut the whole thing down with baseless accusations of racism or xenophobia.

Most governments, fortunately, don't enforce political correctness. However, political correctness is enforced by wild Social Justice Warriors and radical leftists who seek to shove their mindsets on everyone around them. Censorship via mob intimidation is still censorship.

I think, for the most part, political correctness needs to go. It's the worst form of censorship as it seeks to slowly stomp out all ideologies aside of the current mainstream.

Political speech should have been pronounced as retarded at its birth. The thing about America is that Freedom of Speech is guaranteed by the Bill of Rights.

But besides that, if you are getting your panties in a bunch over being offended by stuff like people saying "Merry Christmas" or "Bless you". Then that is a problem with you not them. Political correctness is another method that seems to bring down the Republic and bring about the democracy. But there is never truly democracy. There is never truly monarchy. Here in Brazil, often there are street lynching on criminals as a protest against the innefective prison system and SJWs condemns these acts deeply, saying it was cowardly and only three government can judge people. Not much later, they publically lynched a white guy for a racist remark on the street and got him killed. I cant think of a better example for hipocrisy...
