I was never booted for my first two years and took pride in it. Then my wifi went off while playing RT, got a few boots that way and cared less about the stat.

I have been booted off and on in ones that don't respect vacations, or are 1-2 day boots (which I don't get on over the weekends).

Anyway, I still think my %1 is good.

Anything over %10 is irresponsible. I think anything over %5 is high actually.

Well done Thanatos on your 0 boots but the thing is if I played 23% real time my boot will also be down. I have been booted twice in multiday. The remainder of my bootrate comes from assholes who boot me after I say that I am there.

^10% can be not irresponsible for many reasons

-School
-Work
-Bad WiFi

For me its probably going out since most of the time I have to leave my house elsewhere , there is no WiFi. You can't assume that 10+ is irresponsible

I was at 11% 3 months ago (with 1k games played), now it's 9.1%
If it wasn't for diplomacies I'd already go under 9%

I have been booted 2 times. Once was real-time, and I don't remember the other.

Sometimes I play with unreliable internet, though, so I'll probably end up booting again. I have avoided tournaments when I didn't know for sure that they'd be over before I had to take a break from Warlight for RL reasons.

I understand that there are various reasons you might have to boot, and usually am not upset about it. If your boot rate is over 10%, I won't want you as a teammate (and probably would question it for a tournament or ladder team if you're over 5%).

Of course, the rate isn't everything - it's different if you had a 25% boot rate for the first 1000 games you played, and haven't booted in the last 100+ games, or something like that.

Haha, y'all have some nice boot rates. Well some of you. Mine's at 15 boots, (1%) but half of those were some B.S. boots in games that didn't honor vacations. Those games annoy me and I don't join them anymore.

Who wants to play with someone with a boot rate in the 40s or 50s.
That means you bail about half the time.
I get booted when I have a bad connection or if I'm distracted and someone boots right at the cut off, but really if your boot rate is that high, consider something else to do.

I will not budge that a boot rate over %10 is irresponsible. You can say there are reasons you got booted (school, wifi, work, etc). Those are all things that CAN happen in a game that cause a boot. But if that is happening in 1 of 10 of your games, than you are irresponsible for playing in those conditions. Don't put yourself in a position that 1 out of 10 of your games will end that way. Play when you can ACTUALLY play, and then you might get booted %1-2 of the time that shit happens.

That is like showing up late to work 1 in 10 times and blaming it on traffic. Well, if you know traffic has a good chance of delaying you, then account for it and adjust. Sure, it might still hose you once and a while when something really bad happens, but the rest of the time you should have your bases covered.

Anyway, I personally don't care as I bet I don't play with any of you. but if I set up an open game/tournament, I put a max boot rate of %10 on there for sure. Nobody wants to play with someone that has issues that often (their fault or not).

I got a number of boots from a period in time where I got overwhelmed by work and was in too many games. I learned my lesson, but my 10 boots annoys me to this day.

Anyone who has a boot rate over 5% and plays team matches, go fuck yourself.

It's an EXTREMELY big deal.

Let's say you're in a 2v2 paired with a good player, and you guys are up against equal opposition. With 0 boots you'd be expected to win %50 of your games.

If your teammate gets booted 25% of the time, that number drops to %37.5. That's a whole letter grade and a half, and is unacceptable.

I have been booted 80 times (8.4%), and honestly most of that is from non-vacation honoring or auto boots, which should just be removed from everything in warlight except for tournaments.

Now i would like to mention the best way to piss everyone off, join as many real time games as you can and set a vacation for 10 days.

autoboots are kinda necessary to keep games going at a reasonable pace. puts some kind of ceiling on stalling, even if it can still be incredibly annoying it will not be literally infinite, it will just feel that way. it also keeps people from trying to analyze games for an eternity before making their move. if there is an autoboot, then everyone will know the boot is unbiased for the most part, no arguments over whether it was fair to boot someone or not. the autoboot has different benefits depending on your group, and skill level, and should NOT be removed.

as for vacation honoring, what if someone goes into vacation and never comes back? its one thing if vacations are honored in a single game, but in a more serious competition, well, i doubt other competitors in a tournament or league will want to wait, because someone else went on vacation for some unknown reason. especially if the player is not particularly trustworthy. most of the time, vacations do not appear to be as big an issue, especially if the vacation protection is used primarily in groups of better players who are unlikely to walk away intentionally. however, those who believe it is not an issue to be booted, to hold up others, to leave because they don't like their bit of the game, regardless of teammates? vacation honoring has little place for them. not that most of them necessarily know of the vacation function :P

Not honoring vacations is one argument you can make - but don't join those if you're going on vacation.

Autoboots is far more fair than direct boots. Don't join a game with a short autoboot if you can't do it.
