Yes, but we're talking Republican Voters here, not Just Actual Republicans, who by the way only make up about 8% of the total population(there are around 30 million members of the Republican party).

My point is that your figure of 10% for people who would get pissed off is way off base; The real numbers is closer to 20% at this time, and When trump wins the Nomination, which He likely will, That number is A majority of americans who are republican voters.

America is a republic when considering it as a whole. At the local level you can make a case it is a democracy because matters are decided by town hall meetings and ballot referendums/initiatives. That's why conservatives trumpet the notion of a state-based or locality-based government instead of a large federal government, because it brings America closer to a notion of a pure-Democracy.

Just gonna pop in to say a few things.

1. Jimmy Carter banned Iranians from entering the U.S for a short period of time during his Presidency, and he fully got away with it. What Trump's proposing is hardly new. Although it's doomed to failure because people can easily lie about their religion.

2. Give Trump some credit, there's nothing more nostalgically American than making British people angry. (I'm just joking here, don't make a petition to ban me from the U.K please. I hope to see the land of my ancestors one day)

In all seriousness though, Trump's plan would never happen and even if it did it wouldn't work. Banning someone just for expressing an idea shows a serious lack of tolerance for differing viewpoints. Yes, it's a dumb and offensive idea, but in the end little harm has been done.

The thing is that the same people who are in full rage against Trump (and they should be) are the same globalists and progressives that would not issue a law banning legal immigration (non-refugees and asylum seekers) from terrorist hot spot countries like Pakistan.

I don't think we should discriminate against Muslims. But we should halt immigration from countries that are known exporters of terrorism.

Only Rand Paul had the courage to introduce a bill like this. And only 10 senators had the courage to support it.
