I usually surrender when the ratio of me to my opponent's income is about 3-5. Noobs dont know when to surrender so then I say something like: "FACE MY WRATH". It's annoying if Im trying to play in 3 rt games at once and they dont know when its over. thoughts?

It's a game, and every part of the game might be fun for someone. Strategies practiced even when they know they can't win. How long can they survive? How much damage can they do? Can they frustrate you into making a mistake?
All of these are good in team maps, and when the odds flip because of a mistake they can't help but grin.

True audiotpudding, sometimes people just want to play, so thats ok. Is it wrong to say GG, then if I want to do something else

If their income is 3x mine, and/or there's no plausible way I can catch up to them I'll surrender. There's no point in playing a game you've already lost.

If they're visibly deploying more income than I have, and I cannot realistically match their income via expansion or breaking their bonuses within a turn or two then it's likely time to surrender.

I was in a game once and they were winning, and said gg, so I surrendered. Then they went on vacation. I could have booted them for the win if I would have waited, but that's a whole new can of worms.

Like I said on one of the WGL streams recently. NEVER SURRENDER!!!

Depends on the map, but essentially when I'm unable to break any of their bonuses and they're able to break a few of mine. If I see them deploy a substantially higher # of armies on the border (consistently, over multiple turns in order to rule out reinforcement cards), then I'll probably surrender.

Sometimes I also surrender when I find the game boring and tedious.

I surrender if I lose both income and troop count twice in a row.

(Unless the other player annoys me by asking me to surrender, or saying gg while I'm still playing, then I drag the game out till I finish my other RT games)

And 3 RT at the same time is pretty staple... I wouldn't go for 4 or 5, so as you say, when a game is over and you want to start a new one, it can be frustrating sometimes.

That's why I was asking for Fizza to allow us to have the AI take over and finish our game for us, but alas, it seems he is awol...

There are differences between more nooby players and more top players. When a top player plays vs a top player he knows at a certain point that the other one wouldnt let him a chance. While the chacnes to come back vs a nooby player are bigger. And because nooby players are more often playing vs nooby players they wait a long time too surrender because they might made expierience turning around a game in that situation.

So dont be so angry if someone doesnt surrender. You decide how fast your enemy is playing by joining a game with that certain boottime.

And tbh, so more time your opponent needs to surrender you are winning longer :D


Back to topic: I surrender when i don't see any chance to come back.
To make it dependend only on income can be dangerous. You might oversee a reinforcement card that your opponent has saved.

Good points, cunning use of reinforcement cards have fooled me more than once.

People in RT games can be hot-headed and weird, I think a lot of noobs start by playing RT games, usually prequirements can help with that, but obviously that doesn't help on the larger scenarios.

I gave up playing RT a few months ago, Multi is a nicer pace and you have time to think. Saying that, these games can take months, so it would be nice just to get them over with like you can RT...

I'm ahead 56 income vs. 15 in a ladder game right now. Said game very much made me think of this thread.

To answer the thread title:

You should surrender when you have run out of options to win the game. You have run out of options to win a game if your opponent could paste a screenshot of the board, including all his moves, for the rest of the game, however you couldn't use this intel advantage to win the game.
