I like them. Sorry. To me, it actually feels more like the old Risk I've played a few times - goofy, old-fashioned cards, little soldier figures hopping around the board, washed-out colours... yeah, it fits.
I understand you all liked the simplicity of the former cards, but I could very well understand if that was done out of necessity, not preference, and that as a game maker/designer, it's jarring to have to do years with cards you didn't like that much.
Kain's cards gets one thing right: small image, big border to clearly identify it. i would still get a designer to improve the text alignments before using them in games though. and the 3 letter acronyms don't really work imho. rather read the full name of the card below it.
I have to say the 3 letters are fine, I prefer the original symbols, but the 3 letters serve the same purpose, they are to give you eye something to focus on to recognise a card quickly. The new cards lack this completly and that's why you just see a sea of green and have to resort to reading the names underneath.
Fizzer may as well just remove the images entirely and simpley just have the names in bold. That would save confusion and load time too :)
@ps - I agree with you. They were just created within few hours (most of it was spent in google looking for proper pictures) and I did not put much effort into making sophisticated details. I made them only to show the idea that cards could have been done better that what was was officially given to us. Certainly sb more experienced would make such details look better. Unfortunately I don't have enough time to do that, but if sb is willing to I can provide SVG file with this cards.
There would be a description of the card under the picture. So it might work. I like the cards overall a lot, but i don't like the textboxes of kains card yet.
Id'e like to give a better response. While I generally agree that WL is getting more complex, and cartoonish with their updates, which distracts from the strategy of the amazing simplicity of a risk game, I thought orion did make a good point.
I think fizzer will read these posts and will not respond. In fact I wouldn't be suprised if he is discouraged from making new updates as well. I give him an "A" for efferot.
and also that is a marijuana reference in the order delay card. If u look at the artists' work you will see similar hints.
