I would have definitely countered that. I'm sure any other sane person would as well. Greenland by itself is great, but while Scandinavia is a viable pick AND counter, it's greatly weakened.

Yeah, I guess most of the times I would also have aimed to pick Greenland as something as 3 and Scandinavia then at 4. However since there are multiple first turn bonuses, I guess you would get away with taking Greenland as your first bonus and without Scandinavia.

I think for 4 picks, you already have more map coverage, so definitely you could take the Aus + Indo combo. Otherwise Africa looks good, as well as Russia + Scan. China loses positionally to a Indo + Aus combo.

plus, if they go for the ftb, they'll either not take it because they're scared of indo counter, or they'll go hard into the last territory, and you have a nice income advantage

IMO is still better. It's a turn 3 16.

It doesn't involve the ftb, it isn't countered by your turn 2 12 then rush the ftb stategy, etc.

Hades, it's a 3 turn 16

Take East US in 2 turns = 10

Use that 10 + 2 left overs in Scan and CA (from making one attack in each location in the first two turns) = exactly enough to complete Scan and CA in turn 3, which gives you 16

Edit - this is true if it was MME, but it's actually ME with an extra territory in East US - so this doesn't work.
