People in KS, OK, MO will say "Chewed out" to mean yelling at someone or losing their cool.

^ the Plains folk use "chewed out" but DO NOT assume that we talk like some Hillbillies or Southerners. The Midwest sounds like the American TV accent; that is, perfectly understandable, neutral. Probably the most neutral-sounding of all American accents.
