Hello all!

In response to feedback about people not liking Warzone's graphics, I have been working with designers to come up with a new design. Below I present the glorious megathread of design choices: 52 designs I would like your feedback on.

I'd love to hear what everyone thinks of these designs. If you're willing, you can rate each design on a scale from 1 to 10, or just tell me what your top 5 favorite ones are. Please refer to each design by its name, posted above it.

Here we go!

Why is the home page so empty with only the "play now" the only 1-click button? Everything else has to be accessed from the menu button. I understand the website needs to be mobile-friendly, but that doesn't mean that you have to make everyone click an extra button (the menu button) every single time.
There are better solutions that can allow both to coexist

- have the website mobile friendly
- have links available on the homepage without having to click the menu button every time you want to go to the forum, the tournaments page, etc

Why do you want to have a huge image (empty space) on the home page, and not have the links directly available for your users use? Plenty people already complained that an increase in the number of clicks is bad for the user experience. Instead of the empty space, why not put the links in that space? I really dislike the menu button because it's an extra click

Fizzer, I just wanted to say, you are amazing. Wow. This is above and beyond. Thanks for going out of your way to trying to find a solution.

Oh wow that is a ton of options

My order for the top 5 would be

1. Louis
2. Pb47
3. Pb13
4. Pb49
5. Pb45

Also Pb47 and Pb49 look identical to me and I'm not sure if it's because it was posted twice by accident or it's just really similar

I must say I'm partial to the Brill design, although I don't have a lot of problem with the current landing page anyway. The Unity client being so separate from the rest of the site and also having insane lag and load times on every device I've tried it on seem far more important to fix going forward.

I like pb46 and VedWebServices1 the most.

For every drop down menu, can you add a mouseover event to show/hide a menu? Reduces the number of clicks.

Edit:
Other designs I like (in no particular order):

  • Louis
  • pb8
  • pb9
  • pb12
  • pb16
  • pb26
  • pb45
  • pb47
  • pb49

Dislikes:

Some of the ones that are too monochromatic (examples: pb2, pb6, pb11, pb25)
or cartoon-ish (examples: pb35, pb14)

As a player though, I'd be more interested in my games page than the front page. Boxing the game info like flash had it so it's clear what info all goes together for each game, and adjusting some of the font colors so it's easier to read on that light tan background (or, see what those look like as they relate to the homepage designs above).

Thanks for all the work.

I like pb16, it looks really clean.

pb45 is nicer, however.

Thank you for this thread. I'm assuming this is only for the landing page(and that will drive the theme for everything underneath).

I like all of these in no particular order(will rate among them once you narrow down)

I hope there is more of a discussion around the site layout(forums, dashboard, clan/player/map pages etc). I feel like the screen space is not utilized well and there are a lot of blank spaces everywhere. I'm no design expert, but you should consider feedback from the likes of Muli, Lionheart, Tito and any other designers.

my top 4 are
Brill
pb16
pb45
blackstallions

The webservices ones are ugly as sin.

I prefer non-flashy, mostly monochromatic designs. They lead to making the more important part, the maps and players actions, stand out. In a game that has like 50 player colors on top of colorful maps, having the UI be distracting can make the whole game look like its screaming from 5 places at once.

+1 to everything MotD said. I think the layout discussion is what would help more. But I guess splash pages help for determining the overall design direction/feel.

90% of these seem to be just twiddling with the background and typefaces though. I don't think most people really care about either of those, and most of the stuff above is a downgrade even on those fronts. You might not consider yourself a designer, but I like your design choices a lot more than what seems to be coming out of offshore design firms + upwork-esque freelancers.

Couldn't narrow it down to just 5. My 7 favorites are: BlackStallions, pb3, pb6, pb12, pb19, pb21, and pb45. More specifically, pb6 is without a doubt my favorite, with pb12 being a close second. However, I think pb12 suits Warzone better than pb6 does, as much as I like it.

Sidenote: what's up with pb37? It looks like a screenshot from a puzzle game my 5 year old brother would play on starfall.com, not a strategy-based badass war game.

My personal favorites are (in order of appearance)

- pb3
- pb6
- pb19
- pb21 or pb23, would probably pick pb23 of the two as the blue is more gentle to the eyes than the black
- pb45

all 10/10 with pb6 9/10 since I don't really like the play and play now buttons, but the general background image is awesomely historic.

If I were to name more contenders I'd say they would be:

pb16
pb27; not really a fan of the general background but am a fan of the images for the header and footer
pb31
louis
brill

Anyone else noticed there's no pb5,10,13,15?

Also, I believe a major gripe was the logo (and name but that's non-negotiable) itself. Anyhow, I think a Hearts-of-Iron-4-like design would work best thematically for Warzone.

+1 ViralGoat as well.

EDIT:

This is the Hearts of Iron 4 opening menu (https://i.imgur.com/n2PWQo3.jpg?1).

Imagine the News/DLC/Mods box as a mini community dashboard, although it could fit everything from the dashboard. News as blogposts and maybe new maps, DLC as a Community tab showing Community Events and Notable Forum Posts, and Mods tab as ladders. Above that would be some variant of the normal bar,
