we play 'assassins' which is really fun, but can only work with group of people that can be trusted. 6-8 players.
each player has to eliminate one other person, first one who's target dies, wins.
You need a neutral person who gives each player their secret target.

settings can vary, such as light fog, gift card (really fun to keep somebody alive), ...

Chaos, what maps and number of players do you recommend? Also, what do you do about unusual surrenders or booting? Say the guy with the highest income surrenders or gets booted, does the guy targeting him win even if he was losing badly?

I honestly really liked the very powerful cards settings, but I was blacklisted by Big E, the creator, for booting him after he refused to take his move, so I unfortunately can't join any of those any more. If another member would create, I'd be happy with an invite or at least a mention of when it will be created. A tournament is possible, but consider that it requires a lot of players, and a few months per game.

Very powerful cards settings is just as it is, the cards are made very powerful. They just require a high amount of pieces. For example, spy card in 15 pieces to view a player through the fog for 50 turns. Or reinforcements cards in 40 pieces to gain 400 troops. Or sanctions in 50 pieces to grant -100% income to one player for 20 turns. Quite the killers. I didn't like the 10000% abandon one, though. I forgot the specifics for the diplomacy card.

It wasn't too unusual in that it was merely a 20 FFA without cards for quite a while, but the fact that everyone works towards getting those cards and unleashing them on the most powerful players was quite fun for me (especially since I won).

I recently played a game on Middle Earth with no bonuses at all. That was verrrry slow going. There were extra armies for territories, but they weren't set high enough to really make a difference. In the end, I think I only "won" because the other guy got bored and surrendered.

We have an Assassins game ongoing atm:
http://warlight.net/MultiPlayer.aspx?GameID=2155087

first time we try with light fog. I think normal fog + spy card every 5 turns is even better, but we'll see.

I recommend at least 6-7 players. with less you quickly know who's after who.

People should not surrender, ever. (put settings on surrender has to be accepted by all) That's one of the reasons you need to play with friends or people you trust.
The gift card can swing the game around, the weakest will receive a big stack to stay alive.

as for maps, it's up to you, but for 6-8 players, you want at least 250+ territories, although it might be fun on a small map too (but we never tried that)
Look forward to !! [Battle Island II](http://warlight.net/SinglePlayer.aspx?PreviewMap=10795) !! this will be great to play Assassins on.

@{rp} General Mac: I added you to my invite list :-)

Assasins?

That's the good ol' Hunt variant! :D

(Though in Hunt, you don't win immediately when you get your target; you just get a point and "inherit" his prey. The winner in person with most points at the end of game (even if they're not the last one standing).)

@RvW

> A similar effect can be obtained by using the third variation of reinforcement cards: "Progressive: Give armies based on how many territories are owned by players."

Aren't values of progressive cards determined when you *get* them, not when you *use* them? This makes them kind of suck. :)

@Matma Rex:
Yes, they are. But personally, I rarely save up reinforcement card, so it doesn't matter too much I think?

Matma, the problem with progressive is that the end game is always full of large R cards.. the idea presented here is to have small R cards, then a large R card every so often..

I'd like to make a game with R cards of 5-10 depending on map every 2-3 turns, then another with an R card of 15-25 every 10-12 turns...

Damnit Sin, was just about to mention the Assassins games. They are super fun! Even when idiots go on vacation or accidentally tell me immediately who they are after. In those, I also like to make treaties thru PM, even with my target. It keeps 'em guessing.

Assasins sounds great.....

I like unusual games (if done well) as they add new elements and make the game more interesting.

**LOW Army Cap Game**

Link to a custom, but I think you can put in similar elements to mix it up. What makes it interesting is the low army cap. You need other tweaked settings to make it playable. Below is an example that I think makes for an interesting game.

http://warlight.net/MultiPlayer.aspx?GameID=2183968

Map: Grid
Army Cap: 2.7 (This is very low!)
Armies per Territory: 1/3
Base: 5

You need to ensure that the neutrals are low (0) and you have enough starting armies to get the first bonus, or you can supplement with small and frequent reinforcement cards.

You will often find yourselves constrained by the cap, so judicious use of your armies is very important in attacking and getting bonuses. You essentially are penalized for having most of the bonus.

In this case, if you have 8 armies taking up 9 of the territories in the bonus, you don't get the bonus to increase your income and thus the cap, and you have 8 armies doing nothing for you. When you get the last piece of the bonus, your cap goes up by 2.7 * Bonus value, so you get an extra 15 armies the next turn.

You'd need people who understood the game a lot more than most people seem to. It'd also be a short match if someone started out in a really big bonus and didn't think far enough ahead.

I see that the zombie hordes have taken to posting on the forum, perhaps their AI has been upgraded?
