its funny that USA seems to determine what counts more, now they want the count to be total. You had no problem with gold winning all when you were in the lead. The rule that puts you in the lead is the one that counts?

But unfortunately for me and people chearing for China, USA will have the most medals AND most gold medals this time. The already tied and from now on they will keep winning more.

Final stands in my opinion
usa
china
gb
south korea
france (i think France is really doing a great job overall)
north korea (i dont know if they prepared a few more ghost-super-athletes for the last days)

Many of the medals in the second half are track and field. Therefore, I dont see China or the Koreas doing as well in the second half than as the first half. That said, I think the US will end up at the top by a lot, but I'm not sure if China can hold off GB for second. France will surely get a few more, possibly passing South Korea for fourth. Also, look for Russia and Australia to make a run up the standings as well.

1. USA
2. China
3. GB
4. France
5. South Korea
6. Italy
7. Russia

I don't see why everyone is putting down China, they have many medals left to win, even though Track and Field isn't there best.
I think China is going to bring it back over US, as always, GB is gonna mess up, and Korea has been lucky already, and i doubt they have many more medla-winning athletes.
1) China
2) USA
3) France
4) GB
5) Germany
6) Russia
7) good Korea
8) Italy
9) other Korea

Did any of you guys see Canada's performance in women's trampoline? Rosie Maclennan just won a gold medal. I think Canada is gonna be pretty good at that event in future games.

Hedja, I don't see many people putting down China. I would be very happy if they ended up one gold behind us, leading to a very close 1st-2nd. But I am an American, thus I hope the US wins the medal count.

haha...I'd have hoped that Greece would win...but seeing as they are in a recession it's very unlikely that they will get anywhere near the top thirty or so. Maybe the judges also have hard feelings on the Greeks? Ah well...no matter.

[V.I.W]*AWESOM€GUY* Good try, but the Vatican City does not have a National Olympic Committee, and therefore cannot send athletes to the Olympics to compete for the Vatican City. There can however be Vatican citizens competing for other teams with which they are affiliated.

hedja, in 2008 the US topped China in medal counts 110 to 100 (though China had more golds). Seems likely that without the home-field advantage the US should surpass them once again in total medals (one study says host nations up medal totals by 54% - China had 63 in 2004, US 102)

Frankly I'd be surprised if China matches their 2008 results.

I really think the media should be ranking medal rankings based on the number of golds. Total medal count always favours the most populous of the developed countries, seeing as they have a significantly larger pool of athletes to choose from.

If we go by golds, however, we really cut down on that bias, seeing as we are eliminating any podium sweeps by a particular country, which seems to happen often in events in which the USA and China excel.

In any case, the media will always rank based on the most favourable option for its host nation. I remember back in 2010 when the Canadian media ranked solely based on golds, a system with which we led the rankings. Of course now in 2012 they're ranking by total medals, since it bumps us higher (11th) than counting by golds (21st).

Hedja, I don't really know if the US has a shot at winning the total medals count, or the total golds count. I am only saying I WANT them to, since I am an American. But as an expat who has made China my home, I really want to see the Chinese excel and do well. Just not quite as well as the US.
