Why does everyone keep using alts to join the ladders? Are alts superior to mains?

I know of at least another player with two accounts on the 1v1 ladder at the same time.

When are we going to do anything about this cheating?

i wish gnuffone got as riled up to stop his cheating habits instead of exposing others as cheaters. just because other people do it, doesn't mean it's ok. and let's face it, if high profile players get caught and get away with it, the others just think it's ok.

maybe fizzer could invent a "never caught cheating" badge that everyone gets by default, and gets taken away when people get caught. also a game creation option to not allow these people in games/tournaments by default.

I have 2 players on nearly all ladders and have never tried to hide it. This account and freire (Pedagogy of the Oppressed, a great read if you get a chance). I originally got the second account to play 2v2 with another of my roommates but consequently joined the other ladders due to lack of games. I've always been in 5 games at a time but due to slower players, their right, and stallers, a large problem, I decided to join the other 2 ladders. The rules state to not operate 2 accounts in a manner that would give me an advantage on a ladder. My 2 accounts have so many unexpired games that when they are matched up, it hardly effects either rating. (that might be 'affect' I never know). I'm open to listening and will remove freire if enough people are offended by it.

IMO, there should never be a person controlling two accounts on a ladder at the same time, unless on the same team. The rules are a bit vague, but should be explained more.

a lot of player played the 2v2 ladder with himself, admitting clearly he was doing that, so i don't think is against the rule.

anyway, since in 2v2 ladder is a disadvantage play without a real teamamte, i don't think it matter. If i am not wrong, many player tried it, but only summer didn't get bored and she played till she reach #1 (during 2013 i think).

Sze, me, gui, jsa (?) and few more in the pasts are all failed, most of them stopped after 6/7 games.
I really believe, you have a big handicap playing with yourself in this template..

lol Gnuffone, you always say playing with 2vs2 with yourself is better, and now you're saying the opposite just couz it's the ladder? there is atleast one obvious advantage: your teammate never gets booted while you're active, while everyone else has to deal with that as being part of the game.

Yes. The boot thing it's right, but is not the case of big ahead.
The biggest problem (for me, but not only for me, other played say the same) are:
- that is a boring template
- its better speak with a teamamte than don't speak: it's easy make a strategical mistake (the reason it's bc only 2 starting spot) so have another opinion about where opponent is is very important.
-look at my old game agaisnt lawm: you will laugh for how bad i played :-)
-plus the template is not very strategical, 90% of games are decided on picks. and often is rock paper scissors. have a teammate it help you on don't make stupid decision.

i think it's ahead play with yourself, but you must enjoy the template.

the proof i am right? i am not playing the 2v2 ladder with myself :P

that was related only about the ladder 2v2 template and few weird 2v2:
i still think, play the template you like with yourself is better.
Though i have to admit, its easier make mistake: is a double edged sword. if you're carefull you could play better, but there is the risk you play worse by not seeing some strategies or make bad mistake you usually wouldn't do.

@Potato - Nauzhror played with 2, maybe 3 accounts on the 1v1 ladder but in a way that is legal (I think?). He joined, got games, left the ladder and only did it with one account at a time to make sure he couldn't face himself. Playing with multiple accounts but never being joined with more than one seems okay by me.

Ok, I myself play RT ladder with 2 accounts (Alcoholic and Potato) but in a way that just allows me to play more games and not to game the system, I often take breaks from one account on rt ladder.

You played 1v1 ladder at same time too potato. Checked game log and you had both accounts on most of june

Even if a person never plays them-self it is unfair for several reasons

1). It allows you to choose your opponents more. Join with many accounts, get matches, select which account to actually play. Or play them all, but that increases your odds even more.

2). You have the chance to alter the ratings of other people, and even your other account, even if you don't play against yourself. Maybe you have common opponents. Maybe your common players are 2-3 degrees of separation. Regardless, your play effects everyone else, including yourself, in some way. It doesn't have to be a direct matchup.

I am sure there are more, but you cannot tell me there is no advantage to it or why would people do it? Simply because 5 games at a time is not enough? Balony. You can play RRs, etc if you want more games

I played the 1vs1 ladder with 2accounts just because on a ladder game, me and my opponent concentrates much more than on a stupid RR. Playing on the ladder is much more fun than playing the same template on a random tournament. I didn't manipulate the 1vs1 ladder in any way and i completely disagree that it can be considered cheating especially with a high amount of unexpired games.
