We should all stop correcting each others mistakes and take a deep look at ourselves. Who here has perfect grammar and spelling? Not I. Even if I did, I would still remain humble in my perfection.

Telling people what to do and reflecting on your own perfection isn't very humble =/

GCSE's [...] CV's

Yeah, let's all take a lesson in application of grammar from the guy who uses grocer's plurals, or whatever they are called.

Who here has perfect grammar and spelling?

Me, I do. I re-read and check spellings if I have to. Gui and Mikkelsen are also perfect in this regard. It's not that amazing.

I don't know Ozy... having PERFECT grammar can be difficult. It means not starting and ending sentences with certain words etc. I would wager that your above post would get at least one criticism by the strictest grammar teachers (I can't cite any since my grammar is not at that level)

That said, having near-perfect spelling and grammar (as you have) is quite simple and straightforward. Just requires a modicum of attention and intelligence.

You most certainly do not have perfect grammar and spelling X, nor do Gui or Mikkelsen. Above par? Sure. Perfection? No.

I'd argue that there's no such thing as perfect grammar, since there are various standards. I would simply give the oxford comma as proof of that. The debates on those contentious grammar subjects are where real pedantry lies, so I don't go there.

There are also degrees of formality within grammatically correct language.

Did you at all consider that most people here are not native speakers? It's kind of impossible for them to have anything even near perfect grammar or spelling. I can understand you advocateing putting lots of attention to a CV or something simmilar, but postulating perfect grammar and spelling on a multinational internet forum is with all due respect plain stupid.

This conversation seems to be turning into a philosophical debate...

My dear fellow Artham. This thread is simply a medium by which we may all flex our brains and duel with each other through criticism, sarcasm and wit. It is also an opportunity to demonstrate our knowledge of yet another subject or topic in this case spelling. It provides entertainment for both writer and reader thus performing some service to some members of this dastardly community including myself. Nothing with purpose should be considered stupid. The purpose of this thread is to entertain with the by-product of raising the awareness of breeches in spelling and grammar etiquette.

[M.C.]ARC-77 if it turned into any less than philosophical debate then this thread would have failed.Well said Wordsworth.

Artham is right. I can only speak one language, and am respectful/jealous of people who can speak more than one. I can tell if someone speaks English as a native language or as a second language, and I never judge non-native speakers on their command of the language. I'm just grateful that they put in the effort to learn mine.

I never bother to criticise anyone's grammar anyway, unless there is some sort of irony to their error - or if I am teasing them anyway (trollussa). I put up with it or skip their posts.

You are right Ozy but I make all my digs in jest with no malice or rightiousness. Its just sword practice with words and I think for the most also. I like these threads with bantering adding colour to our lives.

I speak spanish to some degree and I would smile if someone makes fun of my use because I know I commit atrocities when I speak it. I also have tried to learn French and Italian aswell as picking a few words up of Vietnamese and now Chinese. I do them all an injustice but I do try and I respect other's who try another language too. However, surely we can all laugh at each other's misfortunes at languages.

Now my serious gripe is with native English language speakers who are inept with it.

No Yuri. That's stereotyping and possibly racist. I am talking about anyone of any nationality, race, religion or not or from any region who may consistently misuse their own native language. I don't wish to prejudge the type of person that would.

You know yuri, that comment was perfectly well timed. You said it at just the right interval that you set the perfect example of what Wordsworth was talking about.

@Ironheart,

By a "philosophical debate" I meant that it was philosophical not necessarily on the subject of grammar. Not to overuse the word, but a discussion of grammar is almost purely fact-based and cannot ordinarily be condoned as a philosophical conversation.
