Let's make a short update so that everyone recognizes how every game even in 1st round is important.

First a short announcement, I wrote about it before, but I'll say it again, there are no substitute games as far as scoring is concerned. The main point behind the league is to make a structure that'd allow for minimal boot involvement and that'd make players play at the highest level at every point throughout the tournament. So do not follow Chaos's example, who surrendered in all 2vs2 games since he was booted in one...

Anyway here are temporary standings after some of the games in the 1st round:
Group A:
Place | Player | Wins | Losses | Points Total
   1 | Gnuffone | 1 | 0 | 1
  2-3 | 13Chris 37 | 0 | 0 | 0
  2-3 | dodo comander | 0 | 0 | 0
   4 | Niko | 1 | 1 | 0

Group B:

   4 | Ryan | 0 | 2 | 0

Group C:

  2-3 | Widzisz | 0 | 0 | 0
   4 | x | 1 | 1 | 0

Group H:
Place | Player | Wins | Losses | Points Total

   4 | brisk | 1 | 2 | 1

Ties were settled by 1vs1 scores between players. So, what are your thoughts? Anyone wants to modify their predictions?

Same mistake in group G.
Thanks for doing the tables, I've been wondering if anyone already passed to next round.
Predictions... I never played with many players here, so I won't even try to bet on or against them.
Tier 1 players are in Tier 1 for a reason I guess, so if I had to, I would bet on them. Impossible for me to point a favorite here.

I love the way szewezy keeps putting me in the "last" group in every competition. Tier 3 uhm?
Also, why can't we remake a game if it ended with a boot in the pick stage? I mean, that doesn't change a shit :/ I gained a lost only for that.

Hey all-

First off, the notable post thing is killing me, tonight is the first time I realized this thread existed. As Gui points out, I am less focused on WL recently and it shows both in my play and on the social side of things. Anyone who has been playing less than a year I can't predict for shit, and any post that is not "notable" I entirely miss.

FIZZER DO SOMETHING, DON'T LOSE YOUR BASE

Second... actually that's all I really had to say.

Red +1

- Sze - the game you are referring to ended before picks, plus the 2v2s were made manually, not via a tournament, so i have no idea why are you so stubborn against remake in such situation. I of course respect your decision, since you created this league, but allowing your premiere event to be decided by boots is not very serious.. especially when in the league the teammates change, so being booted is not only penalty for the bootee and HIS TEAM, but for him and random other guy from his group, who at the moment is unfortunate enough to be his teammate. it should not be that way.
I know my point of view might seem skewed, because i was chaos' teammate when he got booted in the first place, but I believe my opinion would be the same if it was anybody else. Why should i be punished for him not taking his turn? Chaos felt this was not fair, so after you disagreed on remake, he withdrawn from all other 2v2s making our group's outcome down to 1v1s. Nobody asked him for that, I even encouraged him not to do so as i was not the favourite in the group anyway, so most likely it wouldn't change much. So you should NOT write about chaos like he was some weirdo, who got booted, and quit like a child, but should respect his sportsmanship (at least by not mentioning it here the way you did). And face it - if your goal was to "make players play at the highest level at every point throughout the tournament.", then not letting substitute for a game that did not start does quite the opposite - especially when it resulted in two more games that did not start.
My suggestion FOR NEXT SEASONS: If a player gets booted before picks, then if opponents agree on that, let the game be redone, but: If the substitute game is won by the booted guy's team, then the bootee will only get 0,5pt while his teammate will still gain 1pt. This way you would not punish teammates, and players would still NOT want to get booted.. Up to you but I would do something along those lines..

I have 2 reasons for not allowing substitute games.

First, during LIVE tournaments we had quite a fe substitute games, for example Timinator got booted twice in finals and won substitute games both times. There is always problem with drawing the line on when to allow sub-games, for example if one player is booted even during picks you might feel looking at the other players picks, that their picking plan was inferior, thus reducing your advantage. That feeling can grow the longer you play. Similarily we had a situation with ultimaratio and Timinator after which we decided not to allow substitute games in LIVE tournaments.

Second, I really wuold like all the players to respect boot time, so that rounds won't draw out into infinity. Last season of 20 was a very long series of tournaments and people went active/inactive all the time, some contenders for 1st place were a bit screwed over by it. Here 2/4 advance, so if you get booted, fight on. If we have a ton of substitute games, every round will be very long. I definitely want relatively short rounds to keep the competition tight. And that can only be achieved if players are active and respect boot times. Eventually people who won't be able to sustain their games just won't join and only active players who have the desire to win will remain. As I stated before, just play as good as you can, 1 boot does not eliminate you, 2/4 people advance.

I really hope there won't be any situation like that, but in that case (unless someone will resign) there will be a 1vs1 3 players tiebreaking rr tournament.

I decided I'll make small updates if something notable comes up...

For now competition in group C has ended, here are the final results:
Group C:
Place | Player | Wins | Losses | Points Total
   1 | TheWarlightMaster | 4 | 2 | 4
   2 | dreuj | 4 | 2 | 4
   3 | Summer | 3 | 3 | 3
   4 | dunga | 1 | 5 | 1

Congratulations to TheWarlightMaster who will be drawn as Tier 1 player in 2nd round and to dreuj who advanced from 2nd place losing 1st only on tiebreaker (as explained before, the tiebreaker was head-to-head result in 1vs1 tournament).

To make it more interesting here are some pre-competition quotes:

C: 1. Dreuj, 2. Dunga, 3. Summer, 4. Warlight Master

Group C: 1. Dunga 2. dreuj 3. Warlight Master 4. Summer

1. Dunga, 2. Dreuj, 3. Summer, 4. Warlight Master
Totally disagree on everyone being able to win this one. In my opinion it's the second most unbalanced group. I think dunga is the definite favourite here, but with his recent inactivity, he might end up getting booted. In that case, SummerSadness would be my guess for #2

In other news Yoshi from group D also succesfully secured advancing to 2nd round, but it's not yet known from which place.

Looking forward to more interesting updates :)

Also the templates for round 2 have been chosen, but will not be announced before the end of round 1, so if you are bored with predictions on specific groups, you can try and guess the maps for 1vs1 and 2vs2 games :) Person who gets both right will get an honorable mention.
