Been busy in real life, and trying to focus on my games when I *do* get a free moment (I've joined some multi-player games and am really liking it, even though it takes some getting used to seeing different maps, settings, etc. - will probably lose a bunch of games before I start winning).

But I certainly haven't forgotten the topic, nor will I try to weasel out of paying for someone's membership (although given the possibilities for cheating in single-player, I might have to reconsider how to do it). I see that this thread has become more a discussion about membership via tournament, but my intention was really to generate more interest in single-player.

I *know* that fighting AI is quite different from fighting players, and that many people consider it boring, but it's every bit as valid (for example) as holding a free-throw competition instead of a basketball tournament. It's just a different type of competition.

The reason I'd like to see more interest in single player is that it is the way most people seem to get hooked on Warlight (I've been reading alot of forums and hear alot of people saw it on Kongregate and eventually found their way here). I certainly don't want to rehash the old discussion on the advantages of having more members, but improving the single-player maps (by having more variety and/or settings more like what are used in ranked games) will raise *everyone's* level of play, making Warlight a much better game in the end.

BTW, this is not the thread to have that argument. This thread is about an offer (still on the table) to reward some hard work with a free membership. I still hope to have some contenders step forward to claim the prize
NOTE: I reserve the right to take a week to improve my own scores should any such prospective claimant emerge!

P.S. I happen also to have some ideas on how to improve the single-player experience and at the same time ease the transition from single to multiplayer (which is a barrier to more people than you might think). I will make a seperate post about that later...

well I think the best way to make new player that only played single-player games to adapt to multi-player is starting participate in mini-tournaments that can only accept players with less than 100 games
like theses
http://warlight.net/MultiPlayer?TournamentID=1515
http://warlight.net/MultiPlayer?TournamentID=1547
http://warlight.net/MultiPlayer?TournamentID=1542

the only problem is that u need the help of someone who is already a member in WL

and tournaments that help new players with "Light Fog" and "No Fog" games to learn the basics

http://warlight.net/MultiPlayer?TournamentID=1506

if u are trying to find a way to make new players to easy new player to transfer from single-player to multi-player

Some of the experienced guys have plenty of multiaccounts, you know... So limiting to 100 or less games may not work exactly like you would like it to..

well except for trolls, almost all veterans will not enter in these tournaments

most people with multis make them to troll or as teammates, they usually don't care about beating a bunch of beginners in tournaments, that's boring and useless (like every tournament i join! too easy... (jk))
the mini tournaments are a good idea but ppl with less than 100 games tend to get booted a LOT and it could work the other way round, i think the main obstacle from keeping playing is not having friends/a community to help improve and understand the basics, without which it's a lot harder to have fun.

Why not have it between 100-200 games played.
