the old one was something special, this is the usual standard crap you get everywhere.

If Qi would be the critic, he would probably say something like:
If the maps would have been women for hire, the old one was a dignified 1000$ high class companion that rewarded you with everlasting experience if you knew to rub it the right way. The new one is the cheap 5$ dollar whore where everyone can get his shot at, resulting in the same dull, repetitive experience.

Boring, Unfunny and written poorly, this is not a good contender for the gui alts challenge.

But seriously; what did you like about the old greece map? I only played a few games on it, and it came across to me as a street fight. Most of the games I played people seemed quite annoyed with the template, and played it only because it was a RT ladder.

if i were a critic, i'd say:

map 1's use of cythera is bad. the islands in the middle are useless on that template. anatolia has odd interbonus connections, which make for odd strategies. and the bonus values are too high for such a little map, especially when compared to the original map (http://warlight.net/SinglePlayer.aspx?PreviewMap=1267), which was more about "how far can you get with base income?" than map 1's strategy of "are you able to think for 5 minutes to make picks?"

map 2 is more like the original map than map 1 is. that is why i like it more. when i first started playing warlight i used to play that original map from time to time and enjoyed its crude game play.

1/3 became unnecessary...

map 1's 23 bonuses:

3 1/2
6 2/3
4 3/4
4 4/5

5 5/6 (only 2 commonly picked)
1 6/8 (never picked)

19 are commonly picked. the other 4 are hardly ever picked and not especially useful.

map 2's 22 bonuses:
2 1/3 (best as counters)
----------
1 1/2
8 2/4
4 3/5
5 4/6 (since bonus values are lowered, these are now worth picking)
----------
2 3/6 (these islands are worth picking now)

22 are worth picking, depending on strategy (counters, safe combo in cyclades' 3/6). the 18 in the middle are the most commonly picked.

if you prefer repetitive picks, map 1 > map 2.
if you prefer more creativity with your picks, map 2 > map 1.
if the template does not have less wastelands: map 1 > map 2 (THE 5/6 AND 6/8 BONUSES ACCOUNT FOR 38 -- OR 36% -- OF THE MAP AND ATE UP THE WASTELANDS! since those areas are not very important, the number of wastelands worked fine. but on map 2 the BONUS LOGIC is not suitable for the NUMBER OF WASTELANDS. why decrease the value of bonuses, making the bigger bonuses more significant, if you let those more significant bonuses eat up so many of the wastelands?)

(maybe you won't comprehend this part, gnuff. you don't really ever make templates. you just play them. i can't remember seeing myhand make a template of his own before either. settings for one map don't always suit settings for another. my argument is that the MAP is better. you're arguing about which template is better: i think we both agree that map 1's template is better for map 1 than for map 2.)

Just played this with the new map, it's crap. Decided to close it down altogether until i have some free time to rewrite the parts that are in need of rewrite and pick a new and better template/settings.

JSA: I could, i just don't have free time to handle the maintenance right now, atleast until mid June. Anyone who knows a little of php and has a server online can easily modify my code to do something of their own though. It's all up on github free for grabs.
