People keep making challenged with their alts, and it pisses me off.

Yep, it's boring and pathetic.

I've played along with this "alts" thing so far, or at least have let it fly without objecting as I see it largely as harmless fun. In honesty, though, you think I have been playing quietly for closing in on 8 months so I could finally troll the forum as an alt? What would somebody even have to gain by doing that? :P

Piggy, I'd love to play you some more, but if playing as myself won't suffice, then I'm afraid I can't offer you anything better.

Hobgoblin, make an alt that seems like a real player and then challenge him, could work better :)
Also arun, he isn't going to go so easy on you, he said slow real-time, therefore a lot of thinking.

@Hobgoblin: You don't need to have played the account or two years "just to troll" to be an alt.

People make alts for a variety of reasons.

Two of the more common reasons I imagine are:

1.) Play without people knowing what to expect (ie. if I've played someone 30 times I know their playstyle and adapt to it, if they played me anonymously though they'd have an advantage)

2.) Play team games with multiple accounts (on the same team, which is NOT considered cheating).

3) Because you plan to abandon your main account.

4) Because when you are messing around, experimenting, tired, or just don't care, it is annoying to see someone put a loss as their favorite game.

5) So you can say stupid/funny/random things in the chat and try to have fun with it.

6) Because the alt's account is not overloaded (a) with ridiculous games you declined but still see the chat of in mygames, (b) tournament invites and tournaments (i have over 200), and (c) templates (i have over 30). To play with a simplified account (and profile page) is better sometimes. Since simplifying the main account has restrictions, an alt serves a purpose.

7) Because it's funny to make an alt every now and then after myhand (and other random people) does, and watch how foolish people are in thinking myhand's (and others') alts are mine.

Gui - how about "all games i am not eliminated from and chat from games i was invited to, and did not decline" and an override buttons in every game's settings page "show in mygames menu regarless of filter" and "hide from mygames menu regardless of filters" <-- those would be truly magical..

Only reason any alts need to be anonymous. Other than this one:
