ok
but then you complain that we block up the forums with useless stuff by creating those kinds of threads.
also that was immature, but totally suitable for younger audiences.

so you're saying that if you don't block up the forums with useless stuff by creating those kinds of threads the forum will only contain contents for mature audience?hell no!

either you can't think straight or you're just posting those words trying to defend yourself from trouble
the existance of royal falcons is only for degrading the forums, especially falcon colonal
some people think and text, others text and think
you text something which is baseless and argue with each other on forums and after concluding what you wrote was a waste of time you edit out the whole conversation and make empty threads

and while all this is going on the really good threads are papered over by your useless stuff

sometimes you don't even leave those threads like now

This thread is a prime example why you need real moderators. A serious topic was just spammed with pages of images. On the site I am admin on, you can select individual posts and merge them into another thread. In this way you could un-derail the topic by moving the car pictures somewhere else. I have a LOT of experience with this stuff. I was a global mod on a prominent basketball website, and I am still an admin on another big sports talk site.

People who fear moderation don't understand how good it can be done if done right. You don't give the mods powers to delete threads or posts, you leave that up to Fizzer. What you do is you allow users to report posts. Mods get an alert of reporting. Those posts can be moved to another thread (or a dumpster if they are innapropriate). You can make the dumpster hidden to all but mods/admins so Fizzer can review them. You also allow mods to sticky threads (similar to notable here but better because they are forum specific). That way people can avoid all the junk threads and ones like these don't get buried. Global announcements are more similar to notable threads, and would be made by Fizzer/Mercer only.

I would suggest Fizzer/Mercer start a chat game or mail thread and discuss some ideas with the people on here who are honestly contributing to the discussion (in either direction). Because then you could actually get some progress on how to handle it. Trolls like we see on here just hijack things and then people who actually want to help are discouraged from doing so.

Why? I was, but left because I stopped watching the NBA and lost interest. I used to write articles for them as well.

Like many have said already... to have a handful of diverse WarLight members (players) to be able to regularly or at the very least semi-regularly read forum posts and flag or move comments and/or threads that do not belong where they are placed or are offensive would be invaluable. There is nothing stopping my from creating an off-topic thread in the map development section. I think that would be a fantastic start.

In response to the original question though, I think these same people would be able to moderate reports such as these. From my understanding, as of right now it is only Fizzer and Mercer that go through reports, which I assume pile up due to the multitude of people that love this site, and the natural conflict of open chat "war" games. Having a collective group that could deal with these simple issues would make everything get done faster and in my mind, make the WarLight community closer and stronger.

Someone else said something about using alts to troll. While the verification of email accounts is a thing, it is broken. It does not require it to be a valid email address or even verified at any point. It is just an additional feature. I think this needs to change and having your email attached to an account gives the idea of more responsibility. Yes, you can still create another email but I don't think there is any foolproof way around this issue. The current system just has too many important flaws.

Im reposting this because Im pretty sure it got buried in car pics. I like Shyb's idea of simply having an M rated player become invisible to players who choose that they dont want to see M rated material. This way matchmaking wont be affected, and people can still play in ladders. The only problem i see with my idea is that in team based games or diplos where communication is used for strategy, the invisibility could become a hinderance. Any suggestions for that? Maybe make team chat visible?

I don't like hiding content. Hiding your content does not solve the problem, it simply masks it. Is that what we want to do, mask the problem? It's like popping pills for everything that hurts rather than getting off our lazy butts and getting in shape. Treat the underlying cause, not the symptoms.

Thats what blacklisting basically does, and everyone on here seems to be ok with blacklisting

+One Trillion to Chris.

Honestly, I just wish people would be more mature on threads like this one. Blacklisting can only do so much, they ca still join common games etc.

yes get mods for christ's sake. i've never seen a forum with this many posters without any mods. i have rarely seen a post get moved to off topic, and maybe a couple of things get deleted by fizzer or mercer here and there, but 2 people can only do so much (and i would rather have fizzer spend his warlight time on fixing stuff or adding new features)(or taking a vacation or something).

hiding mature content might mask the problem, but i don't think it is a problem that can be fixed anyway. you could be more hardcore about banning people or verifying emails, but so much stuff will still slip through the cracks. a lot of people are on here to troll, and if someone gets mad (say, for getting banned) it is still easy enough to create a new email account and join again for more trolling.

i see this idea as useful as an extra protection against people seeing unwanted stuff to go along with mods, email verification, and blacklisting. maybe it's overkill if those things get implemented too, but it's still better than nothing.

and for team games, it could be as easy as the button that shows chat for blacklisted users, or maybe a button for just showing the chat for that particular game. but my guess is anyone not wanting to view content from an M player will just choose not to play with them.

Can we use 'O' instead of 'M'? M is for Membership and is one of the few things Members get that free players cant have. 'O' can work well because it's a distinct letter and can mean a variety of things.

Shyb, stuff does get moved to correct forums. I know for a fact people have those powers. I think that is it though besides some people who can promote things.
