Very good idea to get a lot more people playing on the rt ladder.
ps I think he is trying to get sustained play on the ladder, over 2 months instead of just insane amounts of activity the day before, which is what I think could happen with your
method.
Krzchyu states a good point, you could play 1 game every 3 days which would give you a lot of points without it changing much over time. However I think maybe instead of giving a point for each game won. What about every week the points you would have "earnt" for you positions in the top 20 each day you must win 10 games to "bank" those points during the week. And if you don't then you only get a percentage of the points you "earnt" from your positions? Doesn't give points for beating weak players, still points for being at the top, but it means you have to have a high level of activity to keep the rankings changing constantly with the consistent best at the top.

@Beren
That is a bit closer to a sensible solution. I'll give it more thought on how to promote activity. Ideally I'd try a solution that'd promote playing more than 1/2-3 days, but will give very slight or no bonuses if you mass games. Also I'll have to think about if the formula is realistic since there are limits to what data I can pull from ladder (if Fizzer helps with this it'll be much easier).

@ps

The overcomplicated rules basically have 2 ideas behind them, first is that holding the top spot for a long period of time os not that easy, second I want more players to play rt ladder (maybe make rt ladder open to everyone Fizzer? it's been slowly abandoned over the past couple of months). Also Since not everyone has the time to play in rt ladder all 3 months straight, I wanted to include some other form of qualification and it feels like an open tournament is a good idea. Still I want to avoid multiday as much as possible so I think a few wgl open live events as qualifiers will allow best players to compete even if they don't want to play rt ladder for whatever reason.

The final tournament I also intend to play rt as a real-time event. About round robin you may be right, the group stage can be even double elimination best of 3 and it wouldn't take a long time, good point about rr mechanics.

About templates I'm always sceptical about community voting on templates since I don't trust general populus to vote on most strategic settings. Qualification tournaments I guess will be all strat 1v1 for simplicity, becasue otherwise people would be unhappy they are playing in qualifiers not knowing the template. For the final stage I'd use a few templates from rt ladder, a few popular ones and 1-2 of my templates to give the map pool and then players could decide by a veto system which templates would they use in a best of 3. I really like how SC2 tournaments are organised in that way and that'll allow for players to pick templates they are strong on or veto those opponents are strong on. Still the template pool is not a big deal for now since it's gonna be a while before the final stage is going to happen.

Ok, so including ps's point about a rr, here is a TL DR version:

3 rt tournaments on strat 1v1 ---> 3 qualified
2-3 month period on rt ladder ---> 5 best long term performing players qualify

8 players randomly seeded into groups A and B
double eliminatin inside groups in best of 3 format
A1 semifinal with B2, B1 semifinal with A2 in best of 3
final best of 5
All tournaments real time, templates in final stage picked by players from a specified template pool.

well great idea. Hope to see a effect on the ladder :). I would play more rt ladder if it didn't took so long to get a game, which this will help on, so guess that makes the effect bigger

I have a new formula!

Assuming that only the top players will compete to enter this tournament, these scores should end up above 0.

A is wins
B is average opponents rating when the player wins
C is losses
D is average opponents rating when the player loses
E is position
F is time in days (add a quarter every 6 hours)

(A*B)-(C*D)+((1/E)*3000*F)

I do think it should be required to play with your main account for this. That way it's clear to everyone who's playing. Plus, most people who started new runs on alts did it because their main wasn't doing as well as they'd have liked.

Also, it looks much nicer to see Summer, Gnuffone, and master of desaster on the leaderboard than Brainy Smurf, Killua Zaoldyeck, and desi.

I mean it's fine to use your main account, but if you have used multiple account so far, you have the unfair advantage of being able to pick your best rating, so before the start of the 2-3 month stretch I'd require all participants to state which account they are using for the time being.
