The non-Pokemon maps are great playing maps with obviously a lot of effort put into them but the cultural aspect of Polandball distinguishes it from the crowd

Every bonus/territory on every WarLight map is linked to a wikipedia page. So it's not just for the Polandball map alone but it goes for all of the maps. The wikipedia links are automatically assigned by the system so the map creator doesn't have to put any effort in that.

Are the nominations random?

No standards. Any member can nominate any map. You guys should try to mess with the system. Arrive early every week to nominate the worst maps possible. Eventually there might be standards.
