Lmao..

Interesting stuff Knyte! I enjoy this league a lot even though Beren and MotD are being lazy and haven't joined yet!

Reducing cap to 5 games for everyone since it'd be possibly unfair now that clan points are a thing.

Frankly, I didn't foresee that someone would quit the ladder because it uses ratings/points and ranks people/groups based on them.

I quit because you used someone's ladder rank to justify that they were a better player than me, when I'm sitting at 2nd place, I have no interest in having to dominate a ladder just to gain your approval, as far as I'm concerned you can suck it along with your clan. I've left many clans before and I'm sure your's won't be the last.

I'd prefer to keep drama out of this thread, but I'd like to clarify (as I did in the game itself) that I was responding to:

Just keep getting a lot of flak from players who know less than me about how I should be playing the game in a less effective way whilst trying to make sure the team doesn't lose the game.

with:

also, not to push this drama any further, but iirc wct is the highest ranked of any of us on the ladder so I wouldn't exactly call him a bad player

because I found it odd that you'd call out wct for incompetent/ignorance when he's clearly not a bad player. Nowhere did I say that wct or I are better than you; I don't quite understand where you drew that meaning from. I have no idea how this would cause you to see Optimum/IPL as "elitist," but obviously I failed in my attempt to defuse the situation.

I also don't see why you think I'm against you- I thought we were on good terms, but I guess my assessment of the situation was way off.

In any case, thanks for taking your turns in your remaining IPL/2v2 ladder games rather than simply surrendering left and right.

That probably inspires a lot of confidence in the recruiter of the next clan you might end up in. It also probably means that your sentence ends up being false due to Optimum being your last clan..

Also, a big thanks to Kenny and Timinator for helping fix templates as they go along. I really appreciate that y'all let me know when you get a game on a template with some issues. I didn't know much about strategy when I found all these templates to practice on, so my selection process might not have been perfect and it really helps when people catch those failures.

EDIT: League is running again today; I'm going to deploy some small updates to keep yesterday's bug (in Sheets, not Python but I need to make sure the bot doesn't add any more mismatched formulas) from showing up again and hopefully today will be the first time the bot actually helps create games rather than just parse forum posts. Will run locally sometime around 11-12 EST.

So far most of the templates seem good, I mean it's not templates we enjoy a lot but we recognize the strategy behind it. I liked RoR 2v2 more than I thought I would so the league is already a success imo for why I joined. I may join 3v3 later, because I'm not sure how those templates will be. Treasure Map seems too small for a 3v3, Crusades too big. I won't pass judgment until I play them though.

Crusades is one I'm a bit ambivalent about- it definitely calls for a few fixes in terms of distribution and base income, but I've enjoyed games on it so far and the map (although perhaps not in 3v3) is certainly a popular one.

I'm tempted to just partly delegate this to people with stronger insight than me; right now, the only thing other than my judgment is a statistical test that doesn't have nearly enough data to yield accurate results.

I hesitate to say it's a bad template just based on how big the map is, because RoR is pretty big and ends up being quite competitive imo. What I would try is Warlords distribution with some number of wastelands of 2 with the specific purpose of removing some warlords from distribution so that every pick stage is different. We did this with RoR 4x5 0% SR awhile ago and I think the experiment was a huge success. I felt the pick stage was far more interesting.

The problem you hit with full distribution is the triangle logic puzzle. In time a team will find an OP strategy. Another team will find a counter to the OP strategy. Another team will find a counter to the counter of the OP strategy. Now it becomes a game of figuring out how likely the opposing team is to pick from these 3 options (if they also have the same amount of game knowledge as you do). Even though this can be competitive, it is repetitive.

I feel dynamic pick stages to be far more interesting strategically than static pick stages.

Also: https://www.warlight.net/MultiPlayer?TemplateID=780466 <-- Is the template listed for IPL RoR 5x7 0% SR, but it is 3v3 europe 0% WR for some reason.

I have two IPL games, despite only signing up for one.

and

Also, if this is just weird break in the code, sorry, I have a habit of accidentally inducing these, in my CS class, I'm the main tester due to this bizarre ability.

Manual failure, actually- had to check that game manually (since it wasn't created with the API) and for some reason mismarked it as a Des {TJC} win. My bad.

Wow, I guess I broke Knyte whoops, the funny thing is that I think I'm losing the game against Des.

anyway no problem, I can handle the extra game for a little while.
