Billy's last ladder run was 4 years ago and he left WarLight in the meantime. Some guys have continuously trained during his absence and the settings have changed.

I respect him. And I have no idea what OxTheAutist is saying about a lack of skill, Billy is ranked 24th. The way I'm looking at the ladder everything above rank 30 belongs to the big fish.

That's not Billy Walsh, Semicedevine but sebb who is also a great player. I once checked one of his games and there he also liked those strong surprise deployments to territories with a previous stack disadvantage.

As for your amount of delays I usually also don't pay attention in fast real time games however when your opponent moves first then you should aim to hit your opponent after an even amount of delays and thus hit on an uneven turn (and vice versa when you move first). If you had checked pretty fast that one of your delay moves was worthless you might have added in that one missing extra delay basically worth two delays.

I make no pretensions as to my skill level, if you are beaten by someone we would both agree is a noob, what does that say about you? :P

If I can beat you despite making a ton of mistakes, that says loads about your own (lack of) skill. There were some pretty fundamental errors you made consistently in your game that even I can see, but you so pro I bet you found them before the game happened and don't need anyone to point them out. Also, if I beat you and hate you, does that mean you finally have some diversity in your hate group? Or do I no longer count like the high level players who disagree with you commonly? Oh wait, that must be why you blacklisted me - for winning ;)

Its ok though Billy, don't take it personally. After all, I'm sure most of us have yet to see your true genius, and maybe, just maybe, never will. :(

You know how you know you're good? When you lose to somebody, in a game with a large element of luck where everybody loses regularly, and they immediately come to the forum to celebrate and brag about it.

dw billy, nobody will see the smileys you spammed either. try to at least make the claims hard to deflect please. If you think you lost because of luck you are even noobier than I thought. Especially if you mostly play stuff like Autogames with underwhelming levels of average skill, and don't have an impressive win rate. DW Billy, you will always be a special snowflake :3

What fundamental mistakes did I repeatedly make?

I accused Warlight of having a large element of luck. I got really unlucky twice in the first four turns in our game. The first, that you are the rare crazy, risk taking, borderline dumb player to first move attack on turn 3, knowing I had at least a 5 bonus. I figured you were not going to gamble to get an early victory and I was wrong. Unlucky. The second on Turn 4 I perfectly anticipated what you would do and would have recaptured my bonus but you got lucky on move order. Boom. Game over. Unlucky.

Who knows what happens if that doesn't happen. It would then just be an even game, could go either way. But I died on bad luck.

The game with Koala was different. I made several mistakes looking back at it and he made some good moves. There was luck in that game but it went both ways and wasn't the deciding factor.

You didn't get lucky or unlucky on move order, turn 4.... Semice out delayed you (move order is Cycle, so you know how it goes. This is something you have to consider. So if you perfectly predicted him you know it wouldn't have worked.)

{You can get lucky/unlucky the first time you meet and on picks but that is it}

Delay is what I meant. He did not know how many delays I could make and I didn't know his. It was luck that he had more than me. He used skill to maximize his chance of delaying longer but it's still a luck-based event.

If it had gone in my favor he could say the same though, game would have been over if he didn't get unlucky. After turn 3, the game was heavily in his favor.

Hm... apart from expanding into South America the game was nicely played out by Semicedevine hoewever with quite some flaws in the details.

Here some criticism for Billy Walsh on his path to achieving ladder rank 1:

- You lost West Russia + Central America. This cried out for Semicedevine having also Scandinavia and going for the 2 turn 12 income strategy. In fact 2 turn 12 income is something I would have seen during the picking stage. You don't want to meet a 2 turn 12 income guy after turn 2.

- Turn 3 you attacked Semicedevine with two stacks of 4. With 0% straight round settings you have to consider that there are certain good numbers and there are bad numbers. 4 is a bad number since 4*0.6 = 2.4 so you kill 2 armies however you also kill 2 armies when attacking with 3. If you had deployed 2 armies in the background and moved them to your stacks the only possible downside would have been 1 army less if Semicedevine had attacked you early order however in this particular scenario you would have gotten last order. Of course Semicedevined here also played bad by doing attacks of 4.
