Good Kid putting down people better/more successful than him? That's news to me.

Uh, that "mantra" is by the Buddha, and you're supposed to get past all the gates (kind, true, necessary).
You can be critical without being a dick, man.

I've taken the liberty of editing your first post to be able to (roughly) fit within the three gates :)
(See below)

That's awesome, Dunga! Congrats to you guys :)
I've actually heard of a few other kids around her age that have made it to that skill group as well - I think I saw somewhere that a boy was Challenger at age 10.
I think there's a big issue in our society these days with how there's an assumption that girls can't be as good at video games as guys. Clearly, your daughter is able to show just how misplaced that assumption is - and being only ten years only as well!

Good point on the quote; my bad. The saying is still powerful, and very relevant all the same.

Here's an actual excerpt from the suttas that follows very close to the quote in question:
“Monks, a statement endowed with five factors is well-spoken, not ill-spoken. It is blameless & unfaulted by knowledgeable people. Which five?
It is spoken at the right time. It is spoken in truth. It is spoken affectionately. It is spoken beneficially. It is spoken with a mind of good-will.
A statement endowed with these five factors is well-spoken, not ill-spoken. It is blameless & unfaulted by knowledgeable people.”

I will be the first to admit that I do not follow through with it. But all the same, I use it as a guideline for when I'm trying to teach someone.

10 year old at COD = normal

10 year old at LoL = *big deal*

Being good at games is sure impressive.

If you want to be jealous, there are 10-18 years /children/ who are already ++ superb ++ penetration testers that work at security companies or hack the Pentagon as their past-time.

Some /children/ really hacked in Pentagon and got sent to prison. Others work for the U.S. as security guys high intelligence stuff...

What is just wrong is probably discrimination towards children.
If the Original Post said that instead of "her daughter", it is "Dunga" that got platinum, it is smthing to boast about too. :)

If someone in his youth does something remarkable, people will say that he is gifted and genius.
It is even better if he only does one "great thing [tm]" and dies young.
Accomplishments in old age are not as highly regarded. Nobody will say that someone is a (real) genius if he solved some physics equations at 90 y/o regarding anti-matter, black holes and all the complicated stuff...

Cult of youth and discrimination is wrong. Older people and not 20 y/o need to be equally celebrated when they do great stuff.

LoL is mostly about APM (Actions-per-Minute) anyways. :P

I play LoL in the huehuehue servers and I will tell ye the biggest virtue for it is sheer patience... Which is pretty darn impressive in a 10 year old.

Interesting story. I'm glad I signed in today. I've always wondered why you stopped playing. I hope everything works out for you.

When I was a day trader a few years ago, I noticed many parallels between WL and the buying and selling of stocks: risk management, sequencing of attacks/turns/trades to optimize their effects, etc. I'm sure WL has influenced the perspectives of other people too.

Dunga!!!!

Nice to hear from you and nice to hear everything is working out well.
I remember randomly inviting you to a strat 1v1 because you were high up in the ladder and not winning a single game for 20ish games but eventually learning enough :D

I am glad to hear that WarLight has made a positive impact on your life, Dunga! WarLight has certainly made an impact in my life because it made me know more about maps and history than any teacher in any school could ever teach me.

I am a senior in high school and this game has made me consider doing an offshoot of WarLight to improve upon ideas that Fizzer started and put some of my own in the offshoot in order to give some more freedom in the hands of the people and constantly build upon the offshoot.

Of course, I would give Fizzer credit for any of his ideas that end up in the offshoot. But I would be willing to work with the community and constantly strive to improve the gaming experience for the gamers.
