I was under the impression that alternative ids were not allowed on warlight. Especially in 2v2 ladders where it's really one person.
This seems like a silly thing. Why not play one on one ladder if ur doing that,
I think the ladders have been sort of taken over by a lot of hacks. this is just one of the reasons I hate playing in them.
It's never a straight forward fair game, there is always something stupid like this going on.
The one opponent with 2 names said fizzer approved of him doing it.
But the rules don't reflect that.
I know it's hard to prevent if someone is going to go to great lengths but to allow it is just stupid.

Playing with your alt in the same team doesn't "give you an advantage" and that's all the rules about alts are about.

A 2vs2 game is different from a 1vs1 one. Also obviously the template is different. So i can understand it if someone plays with himself ;)

I think the rule is to keep you from using more than one account to your advantage.

Having 2 people the same on the same team, doesn't really give you any technical advantage, as opposed to having 2 people, with 1 person being on opposing teams (or 2 in a FFA). THis would give you intel and ability to sabotage.

There's other rules about not having a coin balance on more than one account, so those games should be completely free of alts.

In the single player ladders, it is probably also against the rules to have more than 1 account in that ladder, because of the chances they could play each other, or throw certain games against 3rd party opponents.

No, they in fact do reflect that.

I don't agree, getting two people to play the same as one is not reasonable.
Now when you have one person controlling 2 players. you never misread yourself and your can never have a disagreement.

It is just another one of those things that make the ladders sketchy.
It's bad enough people stall to the very last min of a 3 day game in hopes someone will forget to take a turn.

Is it too much to ask that people play it straight and fair. 2 people in a 2 person game, etc.
Instead of pretending you are two people.
Don't get me started on the lottery games or the games that are lottery but you don't know it till you are in the second turn.

I have a friend who used to play here but he said there are only 25 players on the site everyone else is an alt, or a hack or a troll.
I'm starting to think he is right, but I think there are more like 35 players to be fair.

That being said, I think it DOES give an advantage, that's why people do it so often on this site. If it was a disadvantage no one would do it. It is common sense.

tim you got probably the wrong Connections then. there are plenty of good strategic Players.
Surely you will understand that having 2 Players in a Team instead just one is an Advantage often, depending on the Player. two talkative teammates help each other getting better and having another view on things. they can also help each other to not getting booted by reminding the other Player to take his turn.

Edit: i think most who Play with alts just don't want to eighter wait on their teammates, or don't take it seriously and don't want to be blamed for bad Play if they fucked up.

I agree with a lot of what Tim says, and I have made many enemies on skype for my opinions on this aspect of the game.

Team games cease to be team games if the same person controls every player on a single team. A lack of communication is one of the biggest differentiators between bad and good teams. Eliminating this aspect of game play is a significant advantage. There are drawbacks to having only a single set of eyes looking at the map, but this and any other inherent handicaps are insignificant compared to the communication issue.

Besides, the biggest issue is truth in advertising. If I'm playing a team game, even an open game, I will feel necessarily short-changed and disappointed if I find out we were playing against one opponent. And yes, this has happened to me before, and it happened with someone who is now a member of my own clan. I was not happy to learn about it then, and I am still unhappy about it now.

If it is a team game, then it should be a team game.

we had this discussion before and i mostly agree with tim.

it's one of the reasons i don't play 2v2 or 3v3 ladder.

dealing with your team mates is part of the gameplay, players playing with themselves is not the same. playing with an alt has it's advantages and disadvantages, what they are exactly is another discussion.

the point here is solely that it remains a fact that playing with an alt is a different way of playing then playing with a team mate and should not be bundled together imho. should be a ladder of it's own. i personally think it's lame atleast.

but yeah, it's been mentioned by Fizzer several times that it's allowed to play team games with alts as long as they are on the same team.

I'd just like to point out that playing with an alt on the ladder is not necessarily an advantage. The best teams on both the 2v2 and 3v3 ladders have almost always consisted of teams of distinct people and you can look to see that that is certainly the case right now.

Lets just call it :

1v1 ladder with 2 teams each then, because that's what it is.
Let's stop pretending it is the same thing as 2v2. It isn't.

I really dont know why you dont want to play against a "team" of the same player. It really isnt a disadvantage for you... More like an advantage. So just let them do it if they want

Yes I agree with Tim and Dogberry that allowing alts in the 2v2 ladder make it unfair!

Because having alts means two times the commits for a single person. It puts two times the strain on one player and therefore has him at a disadvantage.

So we have to make it to where all 2v2 ladder teams can only be 1 person with two alts from now on! That way the burden of committing twice per each turn will be shared equally amongst everyone!

Who's with me!?
