Mar 16, 2014The first polling stations opened in Simferopol Sunday for the referendum in which Crimean citizens will decide whether they will join the Russian Federation or remain part of Ukraine.
According to Crimean authorities, there are 135 registered international observers and over 1200 local observers monitoring the voting at ballot stations. Every voter coming to the station is checked for marks on their hands to prevent a person from casting their vote more than once.
