Sorry for triple posting like this , and nvm what I just said hedja , I actually thought you were talking about normal board games until I noticed brisk's comment (Damn your reply came up before me lol).
And looked it up , well more than obviously comparing warlight to a board game's even weird than comparing it to runescape lol.
Also , if it WAS very visual it'd become far too annoying after a while of seeing the battles (If you meant animations depicting the war).

still, I am saying what you get for free is better than what some people pay for, who pay the same as the add-ons to WL. Therefore I am showing that by itself, warlight at $30 would be worth it, without the current membership add-ons, and he shouldn't become so greedy :S

fred i missed your posts.

How is it unreasonable to compare a board game risk, to warlight, which is online risk, but free? Runescape has a completely different feel than Warlight, it much more financially based, whereas warlight is about community.

Actually what it looked like from google images , the board game has far too many limitations , although yes , I do agree warlight's an online risk the board game and about runescape lol.

However you will see once you have played more games, that you will see past this :) I used to agree with you, but now I realise that it is worth the $30 that Fizzer asks for.

^ Hahah , yep , well some people here are far too attached with the game and that's a main reason behind them buying it's membership.
Ofc , in the end it's just a game and I already see past it. lol , sooo yay :D

And I don't feel like buying the membership myself anymore , because the benifits of it are just...not enough.
My main motive behind this topic was to see why the existing members bought it , because I honestly don't feel like buying it seeing the benefits it provides.
So the creator should least provide more benefits to members , so the players would think about buying it for once for the benefits it gives and not because they spend half a day on warlight.

i didn't buy my membership. and i wouldn't buy one. not enough benefits for $30. playing for free would be enough for me. the ladders are too dull. the best realistic maps in the game have never had a ladder: europe, europe 1600, imperium romanum, africa, east asia, poland big, etc. no ffa ladder (risk is an ffa). no 3v3 ladder. no multiple/random map ladder. no cool tournaments. no universal ratings for all games played. add all that and there'd be more members and more than 120 of 550 members would be active in the ladders. medium earth again and again = burn out.

the problem is that there isnt enough benefit for membership
its not that cost is too high
its that too much is given away free

fred, what you're saying just doesn't make sense
more benefits for members = fewer benefits for f2p, if new member-only features are created it'll still be fewer for the f2p, since originally they'd have been f2p.

Well it depends. I absolutely hate 75% luck, and don't play any game with 75% luck now, which means I only join member's games or play strategic settings. I would buy a membership also because I want to play in the ladders with good players. It depends what you want added to warlight. If you are content with 75% luck matches, then a membership isn't very appealing.

It's definitely NOT too expensive. The only thing I would slightly prefer would be an account-based setup where you pay for membership and then can move the membership abilities to an alt somehow (ideally removing them from your current account when you do so so that you don't use this as a method gifting membership to other people, ie. still only 1 account with membership per $30.).

Membership price is what it is because these servers do cost money to operate. WarLight is actually not just a game, but it is technically a business. While the servers don't cost anything close to things like Google servers and what not, having a couple of 30$ memberships bought per day can certainly help WarLight from shutting down (and put a bit of well-deserved money into Fizzer's pocket). I didn't choose to get a membership lightly; I only bought after 1 year+ of playing.

i also initially thought the price was too expensive, but after playing almost daily for quite some months and noticing a special holidays discount (on xmas last year) i decided the game and Fizzer's efforts developing it was worth supporting.

Totally agreed Huckleberry , I thought most of my replies made it clear too :p
and yeah yuri , custom scenario's are fun and all , well every has their reasons for buying and not buying memberships.
and Nauzhoor , what are you stupid?
Did you guys even read the first post? I know it's NOT too expensive , I said for the benefits you get as a member $30 seem like a lot.
And Warlightvet , not necessarily
Giving more benefits (Not in game) to members would actually make the membership WORTH the $30s. As for that your equation of "More benefits for members = Fewer benefits for F2P" , that's ridiculous , I don't mean revoking some rights or benefits of F2P , just having something extra for the membership so that it's worth buying.
And who says there has be a balance between F2P and P2P , there will practically be no balance between the two ways of playing ever as long as extra benefits are being provided to those who pay , what I wish to know is WHY NOT MORE benefits for the members , making the membership worth it?.

And yeah ARC-77 I understood that when Min34 gave me a link to another forum post yesterday.

@ps , I want to say nothing else , same as what I just said to Arc.

But what you're forgetting is that Warlight is absolutely free to the vast majority of the players, we're not bombarded with advertisements, and Fizzer is putting on the whole thing by himself, with the meager support of the minority of people that pay for lifetime membership.

Also, contrary to almost every other PTP/FTP game out there, at the end of the game, whether you win or lose has NOTHING to do with how much money you've given Fizzer.

Paying for membership 1) supports an awesome site, and 2) unlocks some neat features.

Those are my priorities, and why I've already bought memberships for 2 other player's I've met online only.... one of them was my girlfriend (that I've never met), and she's dead now... but back to my story....

So, if you feel like you've spent more than 10 hours on the site already, that's $3/hour for entertainment. Go find something else to do that cheaper other than going to your public library.

Quit the B*tching, and support the site rather than complain.

If you have ideas on how to make the site better, start a Uservoice and Promote it.
