@Myhand: Did you know that 82% of all quoted statistics are made up on the spot?

For instance, I went straight from Dick and Jane to Encyclopedia Britannica.

Not to mention that you can benefit from the economic train by having a job, applying for the E.I.T.C, and/or C.T.C. (subsidies if you have children), and SNAP (food stamps). Then there's special programs for the poor such as Comcast's Internet Essentials.

You can go to classes that teach you how to manage your budget.

And if you're in deep debt, either by your past actions or whatever, you might as well file for bankruptcy.

It's not that bad.

... Well actually, it's only bad if you're an immigrant coming from a foreign-speaking country, where you'd have to apply for English-speaking classes for quite awhile, but you can't really avoid that.

Which brings me to another topic: It's not a very fair comparison. Does the E.U. have all that much immigration? I'd even venture to say it's kind of xenophobic, even.

I'm fairly sure that Luxembourg doesn't get hundreds of thousands or even millions of (destitute and illiterate...) immigrants every year. And if they did, their hospitals would get overburdened, and the mortality rates would rocket sky high. Not to mention the unemployment.

Is that a statistic?

Whatever these programmes are, they're not effective enough. Income inequality in the US is very high. I'm not going to say EU is perfect, though, because it's not. But it's better, in general. And EU does have quite a bit of immigration, Germany itself is third in total number of foreignborn population. EU has the same immigration problem, many crackpots think that EU in 100 years will be Saudi Europa.

The U.S. is also the 4th largest nation. It's kind of hard to administrate something of that size. Our population is also 3x larger than the average European nation ( grouping Russia into this ( sorry Asiatic-prefererenced Russkis! )), again, kind of hard to administrate. It's so hard to administrate, that we literally don't know how many people are below the poverty line. We only have such " low " unemployment because that's how many people could figure out, had the time or ability to sign up for welfare/etc. When you don't have such basic statistics like that, you know there's an administration problem.
You blame the capitalist system for our problems, but in theory, capitalism is a perfect system. If you work hard, you get rewarded proportionally. It sounds a lot better than Communism's " Work hard, everybody gets 1 more milligram in their rations! ", and a helluva lot better than Meritocracy's " Serve as a soldier for X Years, live as an underprivileged citizen until you serve as a soldier for another Y years! ". Question response response.

No, I am saying 1% of the people control 40% of the train.

You misheard me. I was referring to the " Every 4 miles, elect a new train conductor " mechanic. It seems that 1 man would politically and realistically control the entire train, when irl there is a supreme court that can declare things unconstitutional and a congress that can impeach the president.

Depends. If you are part of the 1% maybe not. If you are part of the 80% majority though, yes, there are much better trains for you. In fact, people in almost all other developed country trains, travel much better. Even a diabolical evil communist country like Cuba, under US embargo for almost 50 years, which includes medicine, has better child and infant mortality rates than the USA.

As said earlier, there is a very high immigration influx which causes administration problems. Not that I'm anti-immigration or anything ; the Hispanic culture will end up being a huge market boost and we'll look like heroes at the end of the day for shielding these people from these warped Latin American nations and their criminal underworlds. From an honest perspective, I don't think anybody would really want to be the 1%. That'd probably be the most unrewarding, bottomless pit of despair ever. It's always the journey, and never the destination. I'll stick to $72k/year with a smile on my face than have my every request be granted. And, the other developed nations in the world much more socialist than ours, and for someone aspiring to climb up the political ladder, that doesn't sound very good to me.

No, I am not saying your train is the worst. You train started of from a high level. It was a modern train in the 60s for the people that rode it, but since then the people have been pushed more and more in the back wagons, to make room for the 1%. But there is a good chance that trains which got a lot of "help" by your train, like Guatemala, El Salvador, Iraq, Afghanistan, Lybia etc. are the worst. And the trains that got "help" by the European countries for centuries of course, like the African trains. If you want to ride a good train, stay away from Africa and trains that got "help" by your train.

This train is more modern than any other train in the world. The women don't have to hide themselves in public, we can protest the government functions, we can bear our own arms in times of crisis and everybody ( though this rule is impartial in times of combat ) is guaranteed a speedy trial with an attorney and a jury of their peers. Also, we have top universities that have been running the periodic table for a while.
You keep claiming that the 1% control/run the nation, but I'm pretty sure that's the government. Also, you keep talking about how they run this nation, but what about your European nations, like the one you live in? Are they not run by the wealthy? Isn't everything technically run by the wealthy, elite and those in political power? The 1% aren't " running " anything but their businesses. If you haven't been watching the news/reading the news ( I know that you have a great affinity for a backwards system such as newspapers ), you'd know that the thing keeping a lot of business up is bailouts. If those stop, they all crumble. Hmm, sounds like a lot more like those elected by us ( give or take ) are in the real power, as they should be.

Where did you read that? Shrug.

You said that it was " for standing places, black against white against Hispanic against republican... etc ". Not sure if this was intended or not, but you did have the opportunity to just leave the sentence where it was and not go in-depth.

In the end, you are willing to sacrfise your own well being just to prevent more equality. Equality which made the best trains like the scandinavian trains, exactly what they are, the best trains. They even seem to not run towards the abyss.

Equality doesn't solve anything. Equality is also impossible. How can we all be equal if we are all different? The closest thing we'll ever get to equality is simply trusting each other to respect each other. No government will ever be able to enforce such a thing. Also, you can have fun with your model train set. That's the only place where Scandinavia will ever have the " best trains ". I can only name 2 business from Scandinavia , matter-of-factly ; LEGO and IKEA. When you're more recognized for IKEA than the women, your nation is not the balls.

That was the intent of the statistic.

And how is the E.U. better, in general? And if they are better, I'd like to point you to: http://www.globalaging.org/health/world/depopulationeuropejapan.htm

Especially this quote: "According to the U.S. Census Bureau, by 2030 the EU can expect to have 14 percent fewer workers and 7 percent fewer consumers than it does today."

... And most of the immigration to Germany comes from other European countries.

Dont discredit my numbers just because you dont know how to argue against them.
Prove my numbers wrong instead of writing such a pointless load of crap.
If you don't know how to get reliable numbers, don't blame me for it.

The income in equality in the USA reached new heights. Its now as big as it was during the great depression. You should pick up a book and read how that ended. Its not my fault that you dont understand the gravity of this fact.

and SNAP (food stamps)

How is it possible that the richest country on earth even needs foodstamps?
Oh wait, could be related to distribution of wealth.

I'm fairly sure that Luxembourg doesn't get hundreds of thousands or even millions of (destitute and illiterate...) immigrants every year. And if they did, their hospitals would get overburdened, and the mortality rates would rocket sky high. Not to mention the unemployment.

Are you even aware of the bullshit you are writing? Didnt I give you the example of Cuba having better child and infant mortality rates than the USA?

USA GDP (2013): 52.840$
Cuba GDP (2010): 10.200$

How is that possible, the USA has a five times higher GDP than Cuba, how come they have higher infant mortality rates?
Oh wait, could be related to distribution of wealth.

Which brings me to another topic: It's not a very fair comparison. Does the E.U. have all that much immigration? I'd even venture to say it's kind of xenophobic, even.

I am not here to defend the EU. The US pressure and influence reaches deep into the EU. And the things they are responsible for are equally bad. We have a democracy deficit in the EU as much as you have a democracy deficit in the USA.
EU immigration policy is despicable and shameful for the wealthiest Economic Union worldwide, but its a completely different topic.

@Myhand: Blame the media in the U.S.

I swear, the more left or right they are, the more they leave out certain facts.

Have you heard about the Sally Clark case? That Roy Meadows didn't know what he was talking about, statistics and all. And he was not American. He was British.

I'm sure he was allergic to reading.

And don't you say that. I was referring to:
"Since I know as an average american you most likely have an allergic reaction to reading, I will try not to link too much raw data.".

It's not my fault you misunderstood. Did you read the sentence after "82% of all quoted statistics..."?

Ghengis, forget equality until you have achieved democracy. The two party dictatorship idea is nice, but it's not even the parties in control. When you're voting for a party controlled by fat businessmen protecting their interests, you do not live in a modern state. Your state is as corrupt as the countries you try to improve. Such is the arrogance of Americans; maintaining their non-existant moral superiority.

A message to the Americans on this thread from another American:

Stop trying to convince anyone else how good we have it or whether we have it better or worse than anyone else. Please. I belong to the 99%. According to the American income scale, I earn in the top 33% of the poverty class. I love my country. I love my state. I love my job. I love my wife and my four children. I love the God that I worship and I love the freedoms that I have in this country. My wish is that everyone in every country would have it as good as I do. A lot of people in other countries have it much worse than we do and we should do what we can to help them not because we are the world police, but because we care. A lot of people in other countries have things better than us and we should remain open to hearing their ideas of better ways to do things. Not all of their ideas would work here much the same as our ideas do not automatically work in other countries.

As far as myhand is concerned, he is a bully. He is rude and he has his own unique opinions on a host of topics. Some of his opinions I agree with and some I do not. Why let his opinions bait you into argument? Do you like your life now? Than rather than argue with myhand, why not just be thankful? Do you not like your life? Work on ways to improve it.

(just my two cents)

Now that the insult is over, let this arguement continue. And don't power your view with anecdotes. I could recount a tale where I met a rich Ethiopian, loved his life there. I wish I can recount a tale where I met a poor Qatari, but I can not.

Let the argument continue, it's just for fun.

I love how this topic went from a logical debate on torture to, "Let's hate on the U.S lol"

Seriously, the Anti U.S bandwagon gets old fast. Too many people like to just lump all the world's problems together and say, "Blame America". It's even worse with people like myhand whose primary weapons are insults, stereotypes, and massive generalizations.
