have to agree with the majority of the folks here, the pricing to create a coin tournment does seem to be a bit steep. and especially with the WGL guys, not very nice for livestreaming. sure you can still create a private tournament without coins, but it only makes sense that a livestream would be a coin event to attract the high skilled players, and the livestream host is already investing a few hours of his free time to host the stream, having to also pay for hosting the tournament itself is pushing it a bit.

what's the rationale of forcing a person to pay for hosting a tournament anyway? avoiding spam? trolls will spam even if it costs them a little.

Edit: Just discovered that the profit is $835 USD per month. It seems this isn't enough.
1890 ads / month - (55 coin leaderboard per months + 1000 servers per month)
1890 - 1055 = 835

That is some interesting math. Not sure where you came up with $55 in coin leaderboards per month when there are ~$280 given out as prizes every 3 weeks. That works out to $370 a month.

Even if your ad revenue figures are correct we are still looking at ~$500 a month. Assuming he works on this near full time and that equates to about $3.13 an hour.

Each cycle amounts to 281,25 USD

52,14 weeks per year

17,38 three-week cycles

Total amount a year: 4.888,39 USD per year

~407 USD a month

Also, the numbers before don't take coin purchases, clans or memberships into account.

Anyways, once a game creates its own currency it becomes a lot more valuable, so this promotional coin board will benefit Fizzer in the long run and new players who joined after the coin feature was implemented will have less reason to resist spending money on the game than the older, more conservative players who are stuck in their ways.

Admittedly, the most expensive tournament to date would cost 3072,00 USD to make (and requires 10.240 active players), so the cost of the coin tournaments may need to be overhauled at one point.

It should be noted you can't actually created a tournament like that, as you cannot create Coin Tournaments with over 1000 players at the moment. So the most expensive tournament wouldn't cost more than 300 USD to host. Still a lot.

The newest update drastically reduces the seed cost of large or expensive tournaments. Check out the announcement here for updated price structure: https://www.warlight.net/blog/index.php/2015/04/update-3-7-1-small-update/

One more thing about (teams) tournaments:

Imagine tourney with 8 teams (2v2) -

there are 7 complete teams - Timinator and his 13 clones.
Team 8 has one open place and one place taken by some noob with 60% bootrate.
Will this tourney start? Without coins surely - someone uses his alt and it starts.
But with coins - no one will waste his coins so it will stuck.

Possible solution:

When joining team tourney you have two option - join or create team.
If you choose to create it doesn't mean you are guaranteed to get place in tourney. Your team will be showed among other possible participants(placed in the lobby).
Anyone can try to join you - accepted (by you) players will be added to team and once you get complete team it will be moved to the tourney place. If any of your teammates decline, your team will be moved back to the lobby. And ofc. tourney starts once there are enough complete teams.
That should prevent holding tourney start by single players without teammates

Edit:
Those are living clones with full citizen rights - no alts :)

Someone reports Timiniator for using alts with coins. Timiniator is banned, tournament is deleted. Problem solved.

Nuke Timinator and the 60% bootrate guy. Do the same with whoever creates team coin tournaments or joins them. Problem solved.

In all seriousness, Krzychu does bring up a real issue. If you're actually putting in coins to play in a tournament, especially if it's for somewhat high stakes, it is a real possibility that a team tournament like that wouldn't start, since someone is less likely to want to invest in joining it if their teammate is likely to get booted.

I never got my 100 free coins, so I can't enter anything with coins. Am I the only one who didn't get my 100 free coins?

Many got free coins, many didn't. I've no idea of the ratio, but you're far from alone.

You can still enter coin stuff though, if you're willing to buy coins.

So what will happen here where someone is operating two accounts in there (check chat)?:

I would think that it is illegal, simply because having two accounts in the same tourney doubles* the chance to win. To me it seems fair to force surrender him from the tourney, (and if Fizzer can, let his opponents advance in his place.)

*Teoretically

PS. I assume that him being controlling both accounts can be prove; simply chat evidence is not enough.

PPS. Has someone sent a report? And included evidence in that report?

PPPS. We are all interested in the policies here; after all this is a first case, right?
