In most northern European languages Belarus is called something what literary means "White-Russia" for example in Dutch it's called Wit-Rusland

Could get a better map, couldn't you? Also, bigger flag is needed - Belarus is second most detailed flag.

I think that map's ok, it show where Belarus is, so it does it's job. As for the flag, you can see the pattern easily, it's not that difficult to see. I think it's ok.

In German too: "Weißrussland" directly translated into English: "White Russia".

Since establishment of the parliament and legislature; the death penalty was made in August. And it's pretty obvious they justify themselves to kill folk - not just since August, since the war in Donbass began.

There have actually been appeals from some Belarusians to change the names of Belarus in their tongues, but none have been done since it's quite ridiculous and not significant. In Belarusian, Bela means white as well, but Rus, as some nationalists will tell you, is not Russia.

The existence of Belarus as an independent nation seems an odd fact of history. It had never done so before the collapse of the Soviet Union, and yet it's a relatively stable nation, compared to the other 4 non-independent pre-soviet nations (Tajikstan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgistan, and Uzbekistan).

Other than that, Go Belarus!

Uzbekistan hadn't previously been independent, but the Uzbek Horde in the region had been a strong regional power a few hundred years ago, and the peoples of that region had clearly continued living under various rule, but only got their independence back a while later.



Not unlike Ukraine, but Ukraine can only be traced back to the Kievan Rus', up until the Ukrainian citizens lived under many different countries' rule, and were independent for short periods of time before their extended period of independence following the collapse of the Soviet Union.

But Belarus is in east Europe.

No, it's in middle Europe - by some estimates, Europe's geographic middle is in Belarus (by most, it is believed to be in Lithuania, near Vilnius).

Well, counting out Kyiv (which was just all the East Slavs, when East Slav was one tongue), Belarus has also had significant independence as Belarusian Folk Republic (1918-1919), which today is the longest running government-in-exile and as the independent Soviet Belarus (1920-1922) (before the SSRU's making). Tajikistan used to be (and still are extremely related to) the Persians, so they had independence, too. I am pretty sure Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan had independent theodes, earlier, as well. And Turkmenistan is very stable, as far as I know.
