A boot before joining a game means you couldn't take 5 seconds to open the game and click join, even if that would give you another 3 days.

Precisely. Therefore we can assume they failed to join for an IRL reason, not by hesitation or a worry about a move. That's the reason why I was thinking of such an addition. We want fair competition, this is not a full time job, players have to handle their life too, it's a shame a whole clan or even the result of a whole division suffer from a pretty obvious external event.

If i remember correctly MotD is investigating the possibility to replace the non joined player with an ai in teamgames. Then the game will still be played (most likely still a loss). I think its good that there is a clear rule about when the games have to be joined. Back in the days when tourneys and ladder games were not automatically joined you would usually get force joined after 3 days to not hold up the tourneys/ladders. Since that is not possible on the clot (yet) its understandable they choose to delete the games after 3 days. How else will you prevent people from not joining a game for 2 weeks just because they are busy? Every game in clan league has 3 day boot so coming online once every 3 days to not take boots in required anyway and like pardon said, it only takes 3 seconds to click join for a game

I doubt that. If you will check i am positive you can find out that players who didn't join there games most of the time committed turns in other games. Its often a matter of not wanting a new game yet and stalling joining in order to not have to many games. Most of the players who didn't join a game in time have been online in the 3 days before the game was deleted so how will you separate the lazy ones from the people who actually had some RL stuff to take care of? If you give the option of getting a replacement when you didn't join in time nobody will be bothered anymore to actually join the game in time cause what does it matter if you are to late?

Yeah. Unfortunately I've been busy putting out fires in CL9 and haven't been able to look forward to CL10 and improvements on that front yet. We plan to have a community-wide discussion and give everyone a chance to suggest improvements to CL as well(we were waiting to start C,D1,D2).

For this specific problem, we're going to consider one(or all) of these solutions:
  • Freeze games for a slot which booted. This allows clans to sub their players and not have another 2 games created for the inactive player. (Only for 1v1s?)
  • If player fails to join a game after 3 days, can we replace that player with an AI? The team will have to play 2v3 for the entire game(with an AI)
  • If a player fails to join a game, delete the game and mark it with a special tag. It will be reported as a "deleted game" in the weekly report, but wont affect the points tally. This same game will be re-created one more time in a week. The clan has a week to substitute the inactive player or at least chase the player down and make sure they join the 2nd "substitute game" created in a week's time. If the second game is also deleted due to the same player/team, it will count as a loss. Basically every team gets a second chance per game. This will result in further delays to CL and that needs to be considered.

EDIT: Posted before the CL10 improvements thread was created.

Talking about improvements to CL...

Not that it affects me or anything, but I think I have a good idea on how to make Div A more exciting, and possibly shorter. I know waiting until the community-wide discussion MotD mentioned would be more appropriate, but it was on my mind, so I decided to mention it now.

IDK if you all in Div A really think there is a problem with excitement, but I got inspired when I read Mike from GG mention that following Div B was more fun that following Div A (and I don't think he had GG's CL9 relegation in mind when he said it). I'm pretty sure this lack of excitement in A is due to 2 aspects.
1. There is no promotion in Div A, so playing for 2nd means nothing.
2. There seems to be a trend where the top-heavy teams are getting stronger, and the gap in results is widening. I only began in the strat community in CL8, and only began to play a little more seriously in CL9, so I'm not 100% sure of this trend, but I think it should hold to be true.

1. Stage 1: Bump it up to 8 teams in Div A and split it into two divisions DivA1 and DivA2. The top 2 teams in each sub-division advance. To me, this adds more excitement for the middle A teams as they have a goal to achieve in getting 2nd in their division, and "promote" to the champions stage.

2. Stage 2: The bottom 4 teams duke it out, and the top 4 teams duke it out. Since each team only has half the amount of regular games to play, there should be more variance and more of a chance for an upset. Bottom 2 teams of the bottom subdivision drop. The unreliable players that might have had a boot wave should be weeded out by now, and games should be most representative.

The next season seeds 1, 3, 6, 8 will be in DivA1, and 2, 4, 5, 7 will be in Div A2.

If all games are played out, the same number of games should be played, but if all teams get locked into their next stage 2 spots early, the second stage can just begin without finishing the remaining games.

Just a thought. Do with this what you may Clan league Aers.

Update #21 - May 27th:

Beren sucks. Quit being mean.

3v3 -
  • Deadman's Rise of Rome:

    • No games completed at the time of this update.

    Standings ~ Lynx: 4-0 / MASTERs: 3-0 / French: 3-2 / Outlaws: 2-1 / Turtles: 1-3 / Blitz: 1-4 / ONE!: 0-4

  • Europe:

    • MASTERs defeat French. Masters move to an undisputed first with 4 straight wins, and are positioned to win Europe if they can beat the last undefeated team - ONE!. French lose their positive win record and fall to an even 2-2 to tie with Turtles in fourth place.

    Standings ~ MASTERs: 4-0 / ONE!: 3-0 / Lynx: 3-1 / French: 2-2, Turtles: 2-2 / Outlaws: 0-4 / Blitz: 0-5

2v2 -
  • China:

    • ONE! finally get their second win (since their last win on China in February!) by beating MASTERs. ONE! come closer to evening out their win record with a total record of 2-3, however their overall standing remains at 5th place. It's interesting to note that ONE! cannot move past 5th place, since even if they win their last remaining game against Outlaws and tie with French's win record of 3-3, French has beaten ONE! in their head-to-head match-up. Meanwhile, Masters fall to third place, having finally been defeated in China, which allows Lynx to pass them and take second place.

    Standings ~ Turtles: 4-0 / Lynx: 4-1 / MASTERS: 3-1 / French: 3-3 / ONE!: 2-3 / Outlaws: 1-4 / Blitz: 0-5

  • Guiroma:
  • Tournament Winners: Beren • apex and Muli (ONE!)

    • No games completed at the time of this update.

    Standings ~ ONE!: 5-0 / French: 4-1 / Outlaws: 3-2 / Lynx: 3-3 / MASTERs: 2-2 / Blitz: 1-5 / Turtles: 0-5

  • Final Earth:

    • No games completed at the time of this update.

    Standings ~ MASTERs: 1-0, ONE!: 1-0 / Turtles: 4-1 / French: 2-2, Outlaws: 2-2 / Blitz: 1-3 / Lynx: 1-4

1v1 -
  • Volcano Island:

    • No games completed at the time of this update.

    Standings ~ MASTERs: 2-0 / French: 1-0 / Turtles: 2-1 / Blitz: 1-1, Lynx: 1-1 / Outlaws: 0-4

  • Guiroma [FINISHED]:
Tournament Winner: master of desaster (MASTERs)

    • Guiroma is finished.

    Standings ~ MASTERs: 6-0 / ONE!: 5-1 / Turtles: 4-2 / French: 3-3 / Outlaws: 2-4 / Lynx: 1-5 / Blitz: 0-6

  • Strategic Greece:
    Tournament Winner: AWESOMEGUY (Lynx)

    • No games completed at the time of this update.

    Standings ~ Lynx: 5-1 (1-0) / ONE!: 5-1 (0-1) / Blitz: 3-2 / Outlaws: 2-2 / Turtles: 2-3 / MASTERs: 1-3 / French: 0-6

  • African Elitism:

    • Buns157 of Turtles defeats Memele of Blitz with a quadruple pick in the Mountains! With this win, Buns moves to even out his win record at 2-2, while Memele falls to 0-5. Memele has one more game left to play, against Outlaws, that will determine whether he can manage to scrape one win in AE. However, seventh/last place is sealed for Blitz as Memele lost against sixth place (ONE!) in their head-to-head match-up.

    Standings ~ Outlaws: 2-0 / Lynx: 4-1, MASTERs: 4-1 / French: 3-2 / Turtles: 2-2 / ONE!: 1-5 / Blitz: 0-5

  • Phobia:

    • Turkish of Turtles beats Master Jz of MASTERs. Both Turkish and Jz even out their win records, however, Turkish evens out in the positive direction, whereas Jz evens out in the negative direction (falling from her loss vs. Turkish). Jz moves to 3rd place, giving Edge of Outlaws an undisputed 2nd place for now, while Turkish moves to tie with Blitz in fourth place.

    Standings ~ ONE!: 3-0 / Outlaws: 1-0 / MASTERs: 1-1 / Blitz: 2-2, Turtles: 2-2 / Lynx: 0-4

  • Strat ME:

    • Grizzlis of ONE! defeats andy903 of Lynx. Do I need to say any more? andy falls to an even win record at 2-2, while Grizzlis rises to tie with Krzysztof of Outlaws in first place (with a total win record of 3-1.)
    • Master QB of MASTERs gets his third straight win on Strat ME by defeating 13CHRIS37 of Blitz/GG (Masters' only loss so far comes courtesy of a boot from Master Ryiro, who was immediately replaced). QB also moves up to create a three-way tie for first place alongside Grizzlis of ONE! and Krzysztof of Outlaws (all with a 3-1 win record).

    Standings: MASTERs: 3-1, ONE!: 3-1, Outlaws: 3-1 / Lynx: 2-2 / Blitz: 1-2 / Turtles: 0-1 / French: 0-4

Current Standings:
Position Clan Points Max Points Change In Position
1st MASTERs 110 220 =

3rd Lynx 106 161 ▼

7th Blitz 34 89 =

I will not be doing in-depth updates as I have done recently until my finals are over.

Thx Ag for the ( mostly ;) )amazing updates.
If the clanleague gets back to the tournament format this would solve the autoboot problem(before joining)
And as i see so much work with the login times etc that were invested in this season(fake games and so on) i cannot imagine that creating the tournaments makes more work for the masters...
Substitutions will be more difficult(extra games maybe)
if someone doesnt join the tournament in a specific period of time, the clan gets the chance to nominate another player or it counts as loss....

Update #22 - June 7th:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1MU0sCbk3s (cause my computer restarted [again] while I was typing this update, but my work was saved)

3v3 -
  • Deadman's Rise of Rome:

    • No games completed at the time of this update.

    Standings ~ Lynx: 4-0 / MASTERs: 3-0 / French: 3-2 / Outlaws: 2-1 / Turtles: 1-3 / Blitz: 1-4 / ONE!: 0-4

  • Europe:

    • No games completed at the time of this update.

    Standings ~ MASTERs: 4-0 / ONE!: 3-0 / Lynx: 3-1 / French: 2-2, Turtles: 2-2 / Outlaws: 0-4 / Blitz: 0-5

2v2 -
  • China:

    • ONE! win their last game against Outlaws to finish at a respectable 3-3. The bottom four spots in China have been determined: French go 3-3 at 4th place; ONE! also go 3-3, but lost their head-to-head match-up against French so they remain in 5th place; Outlaws go 1-5 at 6th place; Blitz is in last with 0-5. Blitz has one remaining game against Turtles, but even if they manage to win, they have lost their head-to-head matchup with Outlaws which secures them last place. Meanwhile, on the podium positions, Masters, Lynx and Turtles are all still capable of winning China, so time will determine the winning team here.

    Standings ~ Turtles: 4-0 / Lynx: 4-1 / MASTERS: 3-1 / French: 3-3 (1-0) / ONE!: 3-3 (0-1) / Outlaws: 1-5 / Blitz: 0-5

    • Master Jz of MASTERs defeats awesomeusername of Blitz. Jz continues to rock Volcano Islands, sitting undefeated in first place with 3 wins. Meanwhile, awesomeusername falls into second-to-last place with this latest loss and has a total record of 1-2.

    Standings ~ MASTERs: 3-0 / French: 1-0 / Turtles: 2-1 / Lynx: 1-1 / Blitz: 1-2 / Outlaws: 0-4

  • Guiroma [FINISHED]:
Tournament Winner: master of desaster (MASTERs)

    • Guiroma is finished.

    Standings ~ MASTERs: 6-0 / ONE!: 5-1 / Turtles: 4-2 / French: 3-3 / Outlaws: 2-4 / Lynx: 1-5 / Blitz: 0-6

  • Strategic Greece:
    Tournament Winner: AWESOMEGUY (Lynx)

    • linberson of Blitz finishes strong on Greece, winning his last game against Krzysztof of Outlaws. linberson secures third place, the best finish for Blitz yet. Krzysztof falls to tie with Turkish in fourth place; this is now the best placing Krzysztof can hope to achieve. He has one more game left to play - against Master Jz - which will determine whether he can finish Greece with a non-negative record.

    Standings ~ Lynx: 5-1 (1-0) / ONE!: 5-1 (0-1) / Blitz: 4-2 / Outlaws: 2-3, Turtles: 2-3 / MASTERs: 1-3 / French: 0-6

  • African Elitism:

    • Wazz of French defeats Buns157 of Turtles. Wazz finishes with a nice positive 4-2 record, but can still move higher than fourth place depending on how Bonsai plays out his remaining games. Buns, meanwhile, now has a negative win-rate with his most recent loss with an overall record of 2-3.

    Standings ~ Outlaws: 2-0 / Lynx: 4-1, MASTERs: 4-1 / French: 4-2 / Turtles: 2-3 / ONE!: 1-5 / Blitz: 0-5

  • Phobia:

    • Master Jz of MASTERs beats malakkan of ONE! in a very exciting match. malakkan looked guaranteed to win in the early turns, but Jz was able to outplay him and turn things around late-game. malakkan receives his first loss and consequently falls to second place behind Edge (now the only undefeated player who has completed a game); Jz picks up her second win and is one more win away from tying with malakkan in second place.

Here is the Jz/malakkan game for those interested: https://www.warlight.net/MultiPlayer?GameID=13314126

    Standings ~ Outlaws: 1-0 / ONE!: 3-1 / MASTERs: 2-1 / Blitz: 2-2, Turtles: 2-2 / Lynx: 0-4

  • Strat ME:

    • Master Ryiro of MASTERs finishes his last game on Strat ME by defeating USA Biches of Turtles. Ryiro got quite lucky in the early turns, which allowed him to stay even with USA Biches until Ryiro's income + stack advantage eventually overwhelmed Biches. Ryiro offsets his boot loss to andy with this win, while Biches gets his second straight loss. Thus, the total breakdown of Masters' 4-1 record is: 3-0 Master QB and 1-1 Master Ryiro. Two players playing one tournament? I call rigging...
    • Krzysztof of Outlaws defeats Grizzlis of ONE!. Grizzlis gets Greenland as his only safe income and is therefore doomed from the start. Krzysztof continues to be neck-and-neck with Masters' win record, but unless QB drops his last game against Niko (currently 0-4, so unlikely), Krzysztof will have to settle for second place (as he lost his head-to-head match-up against QB).

    Standings: MASTERs: 4-1, Outlaws: 4-1 / ONE!: 3-2 / Lynx: 2-2 / Blitz: 1-2 / Turtles: 0-2 / French: 0-4

Current Standings:
Position Clan Points Max Points Change In Position
1st MASTERs 119 210 =

5th Turtles 83 152 ▼
6th Outlaws 67 143 =
7th Blitz 37 86 =
Masters (1) get three critical 1v1 wins (especially in Strat ME where they are positioned to win the entire tournament). They have a great mid-week record of 3-0, which translates to a net gain of 9 points.

ONE! (2) do modestly mid-week with one 2v2 win partially offsetting their two 1v1 losses. They have a net loss of 2 points as a result.

Lynx (3) complete no games during my 10 day break.

French (4) do well mid-week, with a net gain of 3 points courtesy of Wazz's victory over Buns in AE. They move up to fourth place as a result

Turtles (5) have a rather poor mid-week update with a 0-2 record in 1v1s, including a direct loss to their current rivals French (which translates to a net loss of 6 points). They trade places once again with French.

Outlaws (6) have a mid-week record of 1-2, which isn't so bad statistically. However, since they're fighting to avoid relegation, every win for them counts. Which also means that if their net point change is negative, this hurts them much more than any other clan at this point. This is the case for their mid-week results; Outlaws have a net loss of 4 points this week due to their loss in China, however they even out in 1v1 games with Krzysztof both winning and losing a 1v1 game.

Blitz (7) is almost guaranteed relegation now; if Turtles and French get one more win or Blitz loses one more game, Blitz will officially be in the bottom two of Division A (as Turtles and French's TP will have passed Blitz's MP ceiling). Blitz go 1-1 in 1v1 games, with linberson giving them their only current podium finish so far.

There weren't as many games completed as I anticipated during my 10 day hiatus - I hope everyone missed me though. No unexpected changes in clan performances since games are starting to slow down again. French haven't even completed a single game on Phobia despite it starting almost a month ago...

The "Horse Race" graph is weird for me (although I do prefer Times New Roman, I don't like change), so unless this is a permanent change, I will update the screenshot of the graph when it goes back to normal for me.
